I bought 2 sets of bed headboards and foot boards about 6 months ago, all for $1 at an auction.
I wasn’t sure what I’d do with them, but I loved the shape of the headboards, and the posts were pretty cool too, so I knew I’d eventually do something with them.
As usual, in the middle of the night I decided one of them had to become a chalkboard. No, it couldn’t wait until morning…it had to be done at 3:30 am.
My parents are arriving for a visit today, so I thought I’d make a welcome sign to greet them out in my yard. Unfortunately, it rained all night and continues to drizzle on and off today, so the message may be washed off before they arrive. Sure wish I had a covered porch to put it on, but I hope to use it in my house as part
of our next remodeling project in progress.
I’m am p.a.t.h.e.t.i.c. in the art of chalkboard drawing, and it was the middle of the night, so stencils came to my rescue to put “welcome” on it. I added a feeble attempt of embellishment at the top.
I tried! Hope they feel welcome all the same!
Blessings,
Angie
Adorable!! Love it!
I’m all about chalkboards but I’ve never thought to make one from a headboard. I love it and I think you’ve done a great job! Your parents will feel SO special!!!
That is so cute! And, as far as your artwork on it, heck, I couldn’t do a better job!
Great idea Angie, especially with your parents coming.
WOW, that idea is so far outside the box, it is fantastic, pat yourself on the back for that one Angie. Love it, Love it, absolutely Love it. And the price was right, what a score.
Angie – What a cute idea!! Usually those old headboards are made out of pretty good wood and very sturdy. What a good and useful use for them.

That is adorable! I love it. So welcoming–would be great for a bed and breakfast.
I don’t think your attempt at freehand drawing or the stencilled WELCOME were weak at all. I love it. I just hope it’s not raining so hard your parents drive right past your lovely sign.
It is great! They will love it…I know I would!!
Angie what a great idea! I think your chalk art looks really great! What a nice welcome for your parents.I hope the rain stopped enough for it to still be visible.

Super cute! I’m with you, I love the shape. I turned a similar headboard into a door pediment. LOVE your chalkboard! VERY welcoming!
What a clever use of an old headboard!! It would be cute for a wedding, birthday party….any occasion! Hope the messages lasts through the rain.
Oh Angie I love this idea! It looks amazing. I have 2 headboards in the garage that I have been wrecking my brain trying to think what to do with them. Maybe I’ll do one for the kids to drawer on. It looks brilliant! Thanks for the inspiration. x Julie

What a clever idea. I guess I need to start going to auctions to get great bargains.
This is a wonderful idea. I’m sharing it on my Once Upon a Firefly FB page. P.S. I’ve had those “wee hour” impulses, too. They’re fun–if they don’t happen too often!
Darling head board! Visiting from A diamond in the Stuff link party. I’m a new follower.
