Get the Look – {Country Living Antique Barber Sign}

Since the first bathroom we remodeled is officially the “ladies’ room”, our other bathroom that is undergoing remodeling will officially be the “guys’ room”.  I knew I wanted to decorate it with either a medical theme, or a barber theme…or both.   While in the “ladies’ room”, doing some magazine browsing, I came across an article from Country Living magazine about collectible antique barber shop items and saw this antique barber sign, advertising the prices for services rendered.  It’s valued at $300, so even if I could find one, I couldn’t afford it, but how simple it would be to just make my own!
It’s times like these that I’m glad I hold onto blank pages from dismantled antique books.  I love the aged color tone they  have.  I designed my sign in Word, removing a few of the services, so it would fit on the page better, then printed it out on 2 different old pages.  This page isn’t quite as dark as the next page.

I love the pretty caramel coloring this old page has, so I decided to use it, but it was too short to include the location at the bottom, so I had to remove it.  I left the ragged edge on the page I put on my sign, just because I liked it, but removed it for the printable below.
I found an old frame in my stash, with a picture inside I didn’t want.

 I just spray painted over it for the background of my print.

Now, to wait patiently until the bathroom is done getting remodeled to get to hang it.

My husband is working on laying tile that looks like old wood in the laundry room right now, but I hope once he’s done with that, he’ll come back to the bathroom, so it can finally be finished.

Blessings,

  1. Love your vignette! My dad was a barber and so I have a little vignette too with a shaving mug, a brush and bottle of Old Spice. Fun!

  2. I love your style! I might have to borrow this for my brother. He has a vintage barber chair in his basement and is collecting old barber things. This would be a great addition. 🙂

  3. Love thimust Pin and do!!!

  4. I am going to pin this. If we EVER get our old barber shop building done, I think the upstairs loft should have a vintage barber theme and I can picture a big sign like this in the bathroom.

  8. Hi Angie

    What a fun and clever theme for a bathroom. I would never have thought of it and your barber sign turned out great. My bathrooms are stuck in the 80’s and I would love to give them a re-do with some vintage charm….the time is just not right. If your ‘ladies room’ is anything to go by, your ‘guys room’ will be a knock out too. Can’t wait to see the finished room!

  10. Love this sign Angie. The idea of Barber Shop items in your ‘men-only’ bathroom is perfect. I am sure you have a lot of things that will be great in there. I had that theme once and have some neat items packed away … should dig them out.
    Thanks for sharing.
