For example, I picked up this little wooden firkin at a thrift store last week. The metal bands were loose, the finish was pretty trashed and there was wax spilled inside it…but it was cheap and paint is a miracle cure, so I knew there was hidden potential there.
I knew it would look better with some fresh paint and a little distressing, but I think it’s ridiculously adorable now. If it was a baby, I’d be squeezing its cheeks.
I’ve had my eye out for a little brass desk calendar for some time and finally found one.
Isn’t it a cutie?
While I had the paint out, I gave a little makeover to a clock I picked up for $3 at the same thrift store. It’s cute, but a little drab. Nothing a little paint can’t fix though!
Once our bedroom gets remodeled, I’ll be using this cute clock in there.
What miracle makeovers have you created with paint lately?

Love them both Angie! I so would have gone past the firkin. The white really transforms it! Your blog is looking so lovely lately. Love your header picture too. x Julie
I agree–I love paint! Adore your projects 🙂
I am with you too Angie I love paint especially white and cream paint colors!!!! Everything can be beautiful with paint!!! I love the thrift store treasures. I never get lucky like this at my thrift store. The transformation is beautiful on the firkin.

ooooh! i love the transformations!! it is amazing what paint can do!! your bucket is very cool- i will be on the hunt now for one. thanks for sharing! love the inspiration!
Hi Angie– I love that little firkin. I have seen these at thrift stores and I pass them up! Who needs a wooden bucket, right? Especially one that needs work? I love this one! Don’t know that I’ve ever understood fully what a firkin is…but after seeing yours, I’m hooked!
I will not pass one up again.
I recently painted a clock with a frame attached to one side (like a book) it was wooden and I painted it white and distressed it like yours. MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE!
That little perpetual clock is neat!
have a great weekend, always love seeing creations. Do you ever suffer burnout? …Cause like my MIL used to say… “you go like a house a’fire!!”
Pat
How could we live without paint??? You did a beautiful job with these little treasures! PERFECTION!!!
They both look great! I need more vision with some things I pass up. 🙂
Farmhouse hugs,
Cindy

I’ll get my paintbrush right now!!

Angie, this is great inspiration for me. I found a large wooden pail…can’t remember where….thrift shop or garage sale. It still had dirt in it, and the bottom was quite warped, because they must have had a plant inside it and watered it, without putting holes in the bottom. But it had character and it must have cost nearly nothing because I brought it home. Although I love the warmth of wood, I love the way yours looks with a finish of white. I shall be getting some paint soon for a makeover !! Thanks so much for sharing and inspiring us!!
I’m with you that little firkin is so sweet! On my way to do some yardsales hope I find for myself! The clock is darling too!
I thoroughly enjoy you’d blog!
June 🙂
Your blog….smart phones..not so smart!
I’m sorry
I absolutely love your makeovers! Especially the clock! I looks amazing now!
What a fabulous post. So funny yet so true. I agree with everything you said. The clock turned out fabulous, but what, may I ask, is a ‘firkin’?
Makes me want to paint something. 😉
Angie I would have to agree with you! Paint is the perfect fix all especially white 🙂
I too have one of those found at a thrift store.I am using mine at the moment to store some bread boards and rolling pins.LOVE your hydrangeas in yours!
xx

OK, that’s just a funny funny word. Firkin. That firkin thing. Pass the firkin. What the firkin?

Angie … I see the lovely towels in the wire basket in the background with one of you neat country price tags … 3 for 25¢ … thank you, I will take three of them. LOL. I love those tags and use them in my kitchen too.

Hi Angie, Whenever I see something that has potential, even though it may be painted in colors I don’t like, I always imagine it in a fresh coat of white paint! Love your “white” transformations. xo Pam
Angie, I love the little bucket, I think I have the same bucket in my garage, you have inspired me to go dig it out and paint it. I have been painting so many things with white chalk paint lately, nothing is safe.Your clock is adorable, and I love your little brass calendar, very cute. hugs Tobey
Love the distressed firkin! I’ve wanted one for a long time and just can’t find them in the thrift stores, or newer ones are too expensive… not to mention genuine antique ones. I really like the small brass date turner – sweet little accessory!
Adorable container, love the clock
Adore this Angie! Looks absolutely fabulous! Thanks so much for sharing at BWW!!
Have a lovely week!
Hugs,
Becky

Hi Angie,
Your firkin makeover looks so pretty with the distressed white paint and the hydrangeas. Love the vintage brass calendar. I have been watching the antique shop for one of them myself! It is amazing how paint can transform things.
