Sonday – {The Mistakes of My Life} & Bible Buddies Linky

I doubt there’s a single person on earth who doesn’t have something in their past that they’ve done which they regret.  We wish we could just take a big eraser and remove that thing from our past.  We want to forget what we did, didn’t do, or said, and we wish everyone else could magically forget it also.  And, the older you get, the more stupidity and sinfulness you have to look back on.
If one good thing can be said about remembering all the stupid mistakes and sins we’ve made in our life, it would be that if we weren’t convinced we are sinful creatures when we were younger, the “evidence” of the memory and the sheer length of the list, becomes more convincing as we age.
Satan would like us to remember, just so we beat ourselves up, but I believe God uses those remembrances (we wish we could forget) to remind us of why we need Him.
I need Him.
You need Him.
Everyone needs Him.

As if to emphasize the point, did you notice the mistake in the word “Life” in the title of the hymn?
A fitting mistake.
Blessings,

Angie

  1. How true Angie. We find it very hard to forgive ourselves, I know I do. And Satan, the great accuser, takes such advantage of our soft hearts, our desire to please God, and our desire to crucify the flesh and become better examples of our faith, that he moves right in to accuse us even more. The older I get the more I must remind myself that I am saved by Grace and not of works. I must not dwell on the “poor works” I may have done nor pat myself on the back for the “good works” I may do….simply be grateful that He has bought me with a price and my place in His heart is sealed.

  2. Truer words never spoken. Exactly the perspective I needed this morning.

  3. While I’m unfamiliar with the hymn, I can certainly relate to the message. I seem to recall vividly most every sin I’ve committed from small to large. I am very hard on myself and sometimes others. It really is difficult to forgive ourselves. Thankfully we are already saved by the blood of Jesus.

  4. Please pass me the eraser. One thing I have learned is to think about something before I do it and that certainly cuts back on the stupidity an thoughtlessness.

  5. I love that we don’t have that weight upon our shoulders. He has wiped that out… and it no longer remains. Freed.
