Going Gray

Do you have any new favorite colors this season?

Ever since I brought home an old gray stepladder a few months ago, I’ve been loving gray (except the gray that’s on my head.) and mint green is another color I’m wanting to bring into my home more.  I  woke up in the wee hours of the morning a few nights ago, and rather than toss and turn, I decided to do some painting instead.  When I’m in the mood to paint, I just root through my workshop, looking for anything that would look prettier painted.

I’ve had this old wooden half-bucket for years and years, and normally it holds junk inside a closet.  It was time to make it pretty and let it see the light of day.   I’m planning to use some gray in our bedroom when it finally gets remodeled, so I’ll be putting it aside to use in that room.

It only took a few minutes to paint and I still wasn’t tired, so I headed back out into my workshop and brought in this chair that was missing the back.  I actually got two of them at the auction last year, and painted and sold the other one, but never got around to painting this one.

I used milk paint on this one.  I didn’t seem to crackle very much at first, but when I ran the edge of my bank card on it, some flecks started coming off.  I also took my sander to it in some spots to add more distressing.  This gray has a light blueish tint to it, but it’s called, “Slate”.  The brand is Old-Fashioned Milk Paint.  These backless chairs actually make very comfortable seats, but I like them as small display tables for vignettes.

What are your new favorite colors?

  3. Love the gray…but not on my head either!!

  4. I so love popping in on you to see what you’re up too! I love the gray on your bucket ( not in my hair either) It looks calm and refreshing, warm even especially the way you have it styled! Gosh, My favorite color for this spring is Antibles Green.. Annie Sloan chalk paint and I’m loving anything in the coral, peach, rose and brick shades… They are such warm and feminine colors…What I’m especially drawn to is anything floral so that really rules out having a favorite color doesn’t it? Tee Hee. I’m stocking a booth at the antique mall in my town and it’s filling up with flowers and bright colors…! That’s just me!

  5. Hi Angie … also liking gray too, but really drawn to greens, especially sage green or minty green. The chair/stools painted with the crackle paint looks really natural. Good job.

  6. Gray has always been one of my favorite colors, so it was bittersweet when it became so trendy and popular in recent years. Downside that it’s everywhere.. and I like to not go with exactly what everyone else is going with. But sweet that I no longer sounded like an odd, or dark & gloomy person when I said I loved gray! It’s become so embraced!
Your gray on the bucket is GORGEOUS. I liked the bucket before, but I LOVE it after. Very nice job!
Aside from gray – it’s everywhere in my home & most of my wardrobe & sweaters.. I’ve really been loving navy. Maybe even a muted Navy. I like peachy / melon pink with it. And gray of course.

  7. I am loving gray, too…especially with white, and natural wood!

  8. I like this gray! But my absolute favorite color right now is Flow Blue (Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint). It looks beautiful when crackled on dark brown wood.

  10. I’ve always been drawn to turquoise and orange, but your grey bucket has me re-thinking my favorites. It’s such a soft and relaxing color. :0)
