More Image Transfers & Decoupage with Antique Graphics

I find that I accomplish a lot more, when I work on a bunch of similar projects at the same time, so if I have white paint out for 1 project, I’ll work on 3 others at the same time.  If I have my Silhouette out, I’ll plan several projects and cut the vinyl all at once.
This week, a customer asked me to do a bulk order of my “It It Well With My Soul” Wall Hooks, so while I had the Omni Gel out, I decided to make a few other varieties.  I had already gone to Staples and gotten a variety of prints made, so I had everything  I needed to make them.

I had an old board that I cut in half to make 2 wall hooks, so I painted both of them, let them dry, then transferred my images onto them (process shown here).

I did another, “It is Well” wall hook, but this time I used an image of the actual song from an antique hymnal (image available here).

I continue to be so impressed with how well these images transfer onto wood.  I’ve tried both Omni Gel and Modge Podge Transfer Medium and both worked equally well.  Modge Podge is more expensive and is really thick, so it doesn’t seem to stretch as far as the Omni Gel, but I don’t have a local supplier for Omni Gel, and when I ordered it from Amazon, it arrived frozen, which turned the gel into a solid lump.  I guess when the weather warms up, I’ll order enough to last me throughout the year.

This one I did using decoupage, rather than an image transfer.  I just combine regular school glue with a little water for decoupage, as it’s much less expensive than Modge Podge, and works just as well.  I used this method to decoupage book pages to my entryway and sheet music in my bathroom.  I wondered whether I’d have a problem with the pages in the bathroom, given high humidity, but it looks just as good as when I did it 2 years ago.  It’s the cheapest wallpaper in the world, using old book pages and glue!  This map image is available here.
