Repurposed Book Page Canvas Hymn Art

Last week, a customer asked me to create a canvas art with book pages and an antique map, and since I had all the supplies out, I decided to add book pages to several other canvases at the same time.  I wanted to do something different than a map on the other ones, and decided to try painting words over the book pages.
Recycled Craft Repurposed Book Page Canvas Wall Art It Is Well With My Soul by Knick of Time.net

“It Is Well With My Soul” is one of my favorite hymns, so I selected a font and cut vinyl with my Silhouette.  If you don’t have a Silhouette machine, you could also just use stick-on letters, from the scrapbook section of craft stores.

I paint the edges of my canvas first, then decoupage the book pages in layers onto it.  I use a mixture of glue with a little water to decoupage.  These particular book pages are from the early 1900’s and are brittle, but as long as I’m careful, they work well for projects like this.

It was a little trickier getting the vinyl to adhere completely to the pages over the canvas, so I did get some bleed under the letters, but overall, I don’t think it hurt the look of it.

Blessings,

  13. Love this so much. This is one of my fav hymns too, especially when you read about the life of the author of the song. I am however confused about the letters “bleeding”. I read that you cut them out from vinyl, and I assume you glued them to the canvas, overtop of the pages ?? If that is correct, then how did the bleed through occur ? thanks for the clarification.
