I remembered the wood tree slices I had used for my Harvest Party Decor. I knew eventually I’d find another use for them.

I sanded one side, then brushed the paint onto the slices, going all the way to the edge, and used a sander to distress the edges. It’s such a quick and easy way to create little rustic chalkboards.
I have them shown in plate displays here, but I attached D-ring hangers onto them, so they can be wall hung as well. They’ll have a dimensional look when all 4 are hung together, since each tree slice is a different thickness. Next time you cut down a dead tree, or see a neighbor doing it, snatch up the thicker branches, and you’ll get several great projects out of them, rather then just burning them in a bonfire. I think they would look great with a small photo frame attached to the front as well, of if they are sanded really smooth, you could even transfer an image to them.
Blessings,

Just found your blog 😉 what great ideas keep up the good work ….
Great idea Angie … I love to use wood/limb cuts to decorate with, but so hard to cut them straight. I like the idea of the chalkboard and if small enough, they would make nice place cards at a table setting.
Keep inspiring us. …. love it.

Such a cute idea, Angie…I was thinking fun place cards, too! Thanks for sharing!
Fun idea Angie!
Love that look. Very rustic. I’m kicking myself because we had a tree limb from when Hurricane Sandy hit and I planned on saving it to use for something like this but my husband burned it in the fire pit. Doh!

Great idea Angie. Is there anything you can’t salvage?
