Beautiful and heartwarming verses. I have never heard it before but I would like to hear it sung.
Wonderful Sunday post! 🙂
We sing this all the time at church. Beautiful melody and words!
This is so lovely! Thank you for sharing.
I have been searching for an old hymn for some time now, to no avail, and I am wondering if that song might be in the book you have.
I don’t know the name of it, but it might be “Take everything but my Lord”!
Some of the words are….”My soul was empty, nothing seemed to satisfy….all life seemed vanity(?) until my Lord came by…when He came into my life, sweet peace replaced the strife…Just give me Jesus, only Jesus,
Take everything but my Lord.
If you find this song I would gladly pay for a copy of it.
My husband’s aunt used to sing it to him when he was young and he loves it, although he is not sure of all the words. I know he would love to play it on the piano and sing it with the correct words, if he only had the words and music.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Marilyn
Hi, again, Marilyn Gray:
I don’t know if you will still see my response after 4 years, but I found and retyped the words to that beautiful song. I will be uploading it to YouTube, Lord willing, in the coming days. Be blessed!
1. My soul was empty; Nothing seemed to satisfy
All life seemed vanity until my Lord came nigh
When He came in my life sweet peace replaced the strife
Just give me Jesus, only Jesus
Take, take everything but Him
Bridge: Take my possessions, my pleasures, my ambitions
Take the flowers, the sunshine, the birds
Take my reputation, my dearest blood relation
Take everything but my Lord
Chorus: He satisfies my soul; He fills the empty space
His love is in control; I’m enraptured by His grace
‘Tis heaven to be about Him; How could I live without Him
Take, take everything but my Lord
2. We suffer losses; Other things can take their place
Even loss of liberty and miserable disgrace
But there is One so great Whose place none else can take
That One is Jesus, only Jesus
Take, take everything but Him
3. With Him I’m happy in the midst of trial and tear
When He is by me side my burdens disappear
He lifts my soul above and fills me with His love
My life is Jesus, only Jesus
Take, take everything but Him
This is a beautiful old hymn with a wonderful harmony. We sing a capella in our assembly at church- I know you would love it if you could hear it.
All my best,
Susi Miller
I wish I could hear it – it seems like it would sound lovely, Susi.
