Just before Christmas isn’t the best time to splurge on yourself, but I did. It was totally unplanned, and I didn’t even know I wanted it until I saw it, but once I saw it, I couldn’t make myself walk away. I had gone into our local thrift store, specifically looking for wood photo frames, because I had a few Milk & Cream Co. sign orders to make for customers.
And there it was. I’m pretty sure I heard it call my name, and I answered. This antique dressing table HAD to come home with me. Sorry for the bad photo. I didn’t want to drag it to a better spot in my house to take the photo.
I looked this old beauty over, trying to find a reason why I shouldn’t buy it, but aside from some damaged veneer, I couldn’t find a reason. I can overlook the damaged veneer, since I’ll be painting it anyway. I couldn’t find any other reason to talk myself out of it, and all thoughts of a Christmas budget flew out of my mind.
I was afraid to walk away from it long enough to tell the gals at the register that I wanted it. I was afraid someone else would walk up and try to claim it as well, but I hustled over and told the ladies I definitely wanted it.
There was no way I could get it in my Jeep, so I had to wait a 48 hours before it arrived at my house. My husband went to the thrift store the next day to get it, but realized he needed tools he didn’t have with him to remove the 3 mirrors, so he went back the next day and got it Imagine…48 hours of being patient. It was a real stretch for me.
It has beautiful details above the center mirror, and more beautiful details on the doors. It’s missing a knob, but that’s easily remedied.
Because of the damaged veneer, I will give it a makeover, but I haven’t decided exactly how yet. My bedroom is a long ways away from being fully remodeled, so even once I give it a makeover, I’ll have to be patient again to see how it looks in my room. It’ll be worth it though, I know. I can’t wait to start working on it.
Don’t forget to come back here every Tuesday evening at 7:00pm CST for Vintage Inspiration Party. We’re also hosting a special Best of 2014 at the Vintage Inspiration Party on December 30th. All 4 hosts are sharing their BEST projects from 2014, and everyone who links up is invited to do the same. It will be an amazing party!
Merry Christmas!
Great find, Angie! I couldn’t have walked away either. 🙂 Looking forward to seeing it’s makeover.
What a gorgeous piece! I love this!!! can’t wait to see what you do with it.
Have a great night!
This is a real beauty! In fact, I had to subscribe to your blog so I would be sure to see how she winds up…can’t wait!
Very nice piece!
Well Merry Christmas to yourself, but you deserve it for all the makeovers you gave everyone else all year long.
It’s a beautiful piece! Looking forward to seeing its new look.
That is a beautiful dressing table. I can’t wait to see what you do with it! Have a merry Christmas, Angie.
I love it! I smiled when you said 48 hours of being patient was a stretch. Sounds like we have something in common, lol. I am lucky my Birthday is right before Christmas so I am allowed to splurge without feeling guilty…well unless money is too tight then no present for me. I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
LOL – patience is a virtue I seriously lack, Gigi!
Of course it had to come home with you…who could resist those beautiful mirrors? Wonderful find, Angie!
What a lovely unusual piece. I love the carved detailing. I could not bear to paint it so am looking forward to see what you do with it. Meanwhile you could cover the damage with a few well placed vintage lace doillies.
Believe me, Annette – I wouldn’t paint it if it wasn’t damaged. I thought about trying to remove the veneer, but it would really look better painted in our bedroom (once it’s remodeled!)
What a great find Angie! I am DEFINITELY jealous! 🙂 Can’t wait to see pics of the finished project.
