Last week when I made the Pallet Wood Coat Rack w/Storage, I had a lot of wood leftover from the same pallet, so before I moved the extra wood out to my workshop, I thought I’d come up with one more project using some of it first, and this DIY floating shelf was super easy! I’m including the directions, so you can make one too.
Cut 3 or 4 pallet boards the same length.
Cut 3 more pieces of wood (we used thin pieces leftover from another project), and screw them onto the sides and middle of all 3 boards.
Stain the wood, then sand it to give the wood a smooth finish, and to expose some of the original wood color.
Screw eye bolts or cup hooks into the 4 corners on top of the shelf, then attach sturdy twine through all 4 hooks, and tie all four pieces of twine together at the top.
That’s it! DONE!! This is such an easy project, and takes very little time to make!
This shelf is a great way to add extra space where you may not have room to hang a traditional shelf. If you have small children, it’s also a great way to have a shelf that is out of their reach!
Obviously, you wouldn’t want to leave a candle burning unattended too close to twine, but it looked pretty in the photo!

cute. I’d call that a ‘swinging’ shelf 🙂
LOL, when my son saw me working on it, he asked if I was making a swing, Joyce!
You always come up with such creative ideas, Angie!
Great idea, love it!
Oh, this is such an excellent idea and I know just the place I can use such a shelf! Thank you so much!
