Rusty Old Shovel Flower Sign for My Junk Garden
Last week I mentioned I had one last project that I was working on for my junk garden, which I’ve finished. My memory card ate the photos I took while I was working on it, but photos aren’t really needed because it was an easy project.
We had this large, old shovel in our garage. The handle had rotted and broken off, and it was totally rusty and banged up, but perfect for use as a short sign for the garden.
I used the small Fresh Flowers stencil to paint the lettering on it and turned it into a sign for the garden.
I just attached the stencil with painter’s tape and used a stencil brush with most of the paint wiped off of it.
The gladiolus plants are done blooming, so I’ll be digging them up and adding a fall plant or two in their place.
I’ll plant more out by the barn next year where their height will look better and they won’t be so scrunched up.
If you missed all the other junk garden projects I’ve shared, you can see them HERE.
Come back on Wednesday evening, when I’ll be sharing our back porch makeover. I hope to see you then!
Vaya con Dios,
Great idea. I love it.
Naomi, yes I have an entire alphabet stencil that’s available here – https://www.etsy.com/listing/531323509/alphabet-stencil-vintage-sign-stencils?ref=shop_home_active_31
Good luck! Stenciling really is easy once you get the hang of it. I’ve shared some tips for stenciling on fabric and glass here – https://knickoftime.net/tag/stenciling-tips
Love, Love, Love this! How Awesome!
Thanks Sandi! That shovel head has been sitting in my workshop for several years, so I’m glad I finally found a way to use it! 🙂
I really love it. This shovel flower sign is turned out so well. It’s awesome.
Thanks so much!
I did something similar a bit back.
So cute… What a great idea
Thanks Betty! I’d like it to be a little taller, but I didn’t have a large enough dowel to put in where the handle had been. Maybe I’ll do that later.
That turned out really cute, Angie! Looking forward to the back porch makeover!
Thanks Linda! My husband is finishing up one small project for it now, then I can get in and take the final photos!
This is so charming! Did you put a sealer over the lettering to prevent it from the elements?
Yes, I sprayed clear satin sealer over it, Christy.
How creative! I love how you used so many different flower.
