Vintage Style Decorative Christmas Gift Jar
Turn a jar from your recycle bin into a decorative Christmas gift jar filled with cookies, candy, or ornaments that any recipient would love to receive!
How to make a Vintage Style Decorative Christmas Gift Jar
What you’ll need:
- A glass jar
- Decoupage medium
- Clear spray sealer
- Vintage post card printable
Directions:
- Spray paint the lid and let it dry completely. I used white paint, but you could use any color.
2. Measure your jar and determine what size image you can put on it. Since I was staying at my mom’s house, I raided her recycle bin and got an empty glass pickle jar.
I usually use a 3″ x 5″ or 4″ x 6″ depending on the size of the jar.
3. Select the vintage postcard printable and print it with a laser jet printer. If you don’t have a laser jet printer, you can save the images on a flash drive and have them printed somewhere like Staples.
I used winter bird that I layered over an antique postcard.

4. Cut the image out and apply decoupage medium to the back.
5. Carefully smooth the image onto your jar and let dry completely.
6. Spray the sealer onto the image to protect it.
Now just fill it up with cookies, candy, or a mixture of monochromatic matte and shiny ornaments. I didn’t have candy or cookies at my mom’s house, so I put ornaments in it and left it with her. I was afraid it wouldn’t survive the trip back home.
Make a few for yourself in different sizes. You can line them up on a sunny window sill, arrange them on a mantel, or group them together in the center of a tablescape to add glimmer.
