In hindsight, it seems it was a little prophetic that my son joined the Army Reserves. When he was a freshman in high school, he and I were in a thrift store one day, when an Army recruiter approached him, thinking he was older than he was, and handed him a business card and encouraged him to consider the Army after high school. At the time, I didn’t give it a second thought – it seemed so far away.
Fast forward six years, and he is officially a US Army soldier. He plans to return to college in the fall to finish his business degree, while serving in the Reserves.
We were able to spend 2 days with him to celebrate his graduation from basic training, before he goes on to finish his specific training for his job in the Army.
My parents were able to attend his graduation as well, and I absolutely love this photo I got of him walking with his grandma. It reminds me of when he was little, and held her hand when they walked together.
Mugshot of me with my handsome soldier son.
I feel very blessed to have 4 wonderful kids!
What a wonderful time of celebration! So happy for you and your family.

You have every reason to be proud of you wonderful family. You son looks very grown up on his graduation day and it’s sweet to see his grandma take his arm to walk the grounds!

Your entire family must be so proud! Thank you for sharing this important even in your son’s life. God bless him and keep him safe as he goes forward in the next leg of his journey.
I served 4 years active duty Army and I am such a better person for it. I left the Army in Sept of 2011 and I cherish the memories and lessons I learned.
Congrats to your family! You’re all on the journey with him now!

Congrats! I am the momma of a soldier, too. He’d joined the PA National Guard and ended up serving in Iraq and has been back now for a few years but is still off to drill once a month! 🙂 Very lovely photos of your son and family! You can always be proud of a child serving their country! 🙂
