Well-Aged Finds

On the way home from church last Sunday, I spotted an “Estate Sale” sign.  Those are 2 words that send my heartbeat thumping fast.  I could barely wait for my daughter to stop the car to jump out.  It was the final day of the sale and everything was half-price.  The original prices were pretty high, but at half-price they were more reasonable.

I can’t believe this adorable wash basin hadn’t sold yet and nearly squealed out loud.  Whenever I sell these in my shop, they always seem to get purchased by photographers who want to use them as “bath time” props for baby photos.
{it literally sold while I was writing this post – to a photographer!}

I also found a super old laundry pin bag – the kind that hangs on a clothesline.  Unfortunately, the fabric was torn and very brittle, but it was filled with bunches of old clothespins that were beautifully weathered.  Eventually, I hope to use the wire hanging part and make a new bag for it.

I have a thing about old scissors – the more the better is my motto.

Not only do they have beautiful patina, but frequently they had a more elegant shape than we see on scissors today.   Occasionally I sell these in my shop {a set is listed HERE}, but all of these are destined for other projects which I’ll be sharing down the road.

And last, but certainly not least is this large antique wooden sifter screen.  I believe these were used to sift grains, but I’m not positive.

Isn’t it a beauty?!

  1. OOOh! Rusty! I love old scissors, too, especially the pairs with curly finger grips.

  2. Great finds Angie … especially love the wash basin. Glad you sold it so quickly. The old clothes pins have such warm patina … so much fun. I was just using my antique clothes pin bag yesterday and it is getting pretty fragile, but looking at it and using it, brings back so many good memories. Love all the items you bought … never can have too many scissors.

    I slow down for yard sale signs, but I make hubby turn around for estate sales. (I make hubby leave me there for an estate auction, so he can go get the truck). lol
