a Bed Springs Vase or Candleholder

When my parents came to visit last month, my mom handed me a garbage bag full of bed springs.  I was almost out of springs that came out of the cushions from my grain sack wicker couch, and these were a different shape, so I’m happy to have a new stock of the to work with now.

Before I put them in my workshop, the place where things go to be forgotten for 6 months, I thought I’d whip up a quick project with a few of them.  I decided to make anther bed springs flower holder, so I grabbed an old board that came off the door frame from our guest room when we remodeled it.

It has chippy old white paint on it, so I didn’t need to paint it or anything.  I just hammered a few U-nails (fence nails) around the springs into the wood.

I searched several stores, looking for some kind of glass container small enough to fit inside the springs, but large enough to be able to hold something, and came up empty-handed, so this project sat on my kitchen counter for several days.  Then I remembered 4 small flower vases that came in a box glassware I won at an auction several years ago.  Several times, I almost donated those vases, but since they all matched, I figured I might have need of them some day.  Hoarding paid off once again!

Since the bottom of the vases were too large to fit into the top of the springs, the springs had to be removed from the board to get them inside, but they were perfect once the springs were hammered back on again.

They work for candle holders as well.  A shorter taper candle would have looked better, but all I had on hand were tall ones.

This Bed Spring Flower Vase/Candle Holder is available in my shop here.

Although I’ll love getting an extra hour of sleep from setting the clock back tonight, I’m dreading how early it gets dark.  I’m so tired tonight though, I think I’ll go to bed early, and get even more extra sleep!  Good Night All!
