Home for the Holidays Christmas Sign & Placemats
Since all of my kids, their spouses, and my mom will be here for Christmas, I’m inspired to work on a few new projects.
The first project started with a wood frame that came off of a canvas. I had bought the canvas to use on another project, but messed that project up. Since the frame that came inside the canvas is great, I cut the canvas off and saved the frame. I bought a 6-pack of the canvases so I have more frames to use. You can get the canvases for very cheaply, so they’re worth buying just for the frames.
When I purchased the Happy Camper Winter Add-on, I had no intention of making the camper itself. I was really just interested in the rest of the pieces that came with this set, specifically the Home for the Holidays piece because I knew I could use it on many different projects. I used the evergreen tree on one side of the Farmhouse Wood Tote that I shared a few weeks ago.
Supplies Used:
X-Acto Knife (This one is under $5 with free shipping.)
Red spray paint
Black spray paint
*Anyone who orders the Happy Camper Add-on will receive two free packets (1 each) of Candy Apple & White chalk paste colors.
Directions:
- Remove the canvas on the back of the frame with an X-Acto knife.
- To make the Home for the Holidays Christmas sign, I spray-painted the frame red and also spray-painted a piece of medium-density fiberboard (MDF) black.
- Chalk the design on the MDF and allow it to dry.
- Once the design is dry, use E6000 to attach the MDF to the back of the frame and add a sawtooth hanger on the back.
* NOTE – You must wax any surface like the MDF before adhering the transfer onto it and chalking a design. I created a second project on buffalo check placemats using the same Home for the Holidays image with white Chalk Couture ink. They’ll coordinate beautifully with the JOY bandana napkins that I made for each person. Of course, even if you don’t want to make the Home for the Holidays Christmas sign, I hope you’ve discovered a new way to get inexpensive frames that can be customized in any color. If you enjoyed this project, I hope you’ll PIN it!
Be sure and tell me what you would put inside the frame. Both the framed sign and sets of two placemats are available in my Etsy shop HERE. Check out more easy Christmas projects HERE!
Vaya con Dios,
Angie
Angie, I wanted to let you know that I received my little Chalk Couture package from you a few days ago. Thank you so much. I haven’t had time to use it just yet but I will soon. I can’t wait.
Your Holiday sign in the red frame is really pretty. Is the background chalk board paint? And the place mats in the black and red check are cute, too.
Nice little projects to use for the Season. Have a happy weekend!
Love it, Angie…perfect for the holidays!
Thanks Linda. I love the font so much!
I love all your projects. I just checked out your Etsy shop and wow I want everything. You are so talented. Happy Thanksgiving, Kippi
Thanks so much Kippi!
