Dunce Cap

There are some things that I’m firmly convinced some people should never do. Those things are just wrong as wrong can be. Men should not wear skinny jeans.  {I know some people would strongly disagree with this statement, but you couldn’t convince me otherwise – so don’t bother trying.} I should not do blog design. I’ve spent h.o.u.r.s. this weekend, including the 4-hour drive home from a basketball tournament, just trying to re-design my blog header.  Either I’m a really {Read More}

Drawer Shelves

I’ve got bunches of drawers from old desks and dressers and rather than let them sit in stacks in my workroom, I pulled one out the other day and decided to create a display shelf for some of my clocks in it.  I’d made small banner with my metal letter tabs to spell, “Old Times” and I had a drawer that was just the right size to hang on the drawer.  Right now it’s sitting on top of my piano {Read More}

Pardon the Mess

There’s more remodeling going on, but this time the project isn’t part of my house.  I’m doing some remodeling on my blog, so you’ll notice that things are going to look a little funky while I tweak it. We are away from home for the weekend while my son is in a basketball tournament.  In between games, I plan to hit all the thrift stores and a few antique stores in town, but there’s entirely too much time in the {Read More}

Happenstance & a Spit Shine

happenstance – a chance happening or event I brought home some really great things last week, but the one that totally tickled my fancy is the smallest and least impressive one, by most standards. I’ve been using a towel to erase the chalk from my chalkboard wall, so I planned to drop by the school supply store to buy a chalkboard eraser.  I would have preferred an old one, but just hadn’t come across any.   Just a few blocks {Read More}

Antique Graphics Wednesday – Easter Advertisement & Postcard

Before we know it, Easter will be here, so today I’m featuring antique ads and postcards that you can print & enjoy. This advertisement for Swift’s Premium Ham came from a 1908 McClure’s magazine. I have another old postcard that is very old and tattered, but the typography is lovely, so I’ve cropped out just that part for you. Another sweet little postcard with a baby chick on it. To see all the past graphics I’ve posted, click on the tab {Read More}

Simple Truth – Jesus Loves Me

I think if you ask anyone who has even a passing acquaintance with the Bible, or the Christian faith, to name one famous hymn, many would respond, “Jesus Loves Me”. Ask those same people to name just one verse in the Bible, and they are likely to respond with John 3:16.   Both the hymn and the verse are incredibly simple – almost child-like, yet both contain a message, written so simply that anyone, young or old can understand that message…. God wants a relationship {Read More}

Visual Feast

I readily admit that I’m easily distracted, but when I’m grocery shopping,  I just want to get in and out as quick as  possible, so I am usually pretty focused. But, when I ran in the store a few days ago, just to pick up a few things needed for dinner, I got WAY distracted. Maybe it’s spring fever, or I had White Wednesday on the brain, but pretty foods just seemed to leap off the shelves and into my {Read More}
