Farmhouse Friday – Repurposed Doors and Windows

Thanks so much to all of your for your prayers and sweet comments about my father’s fall and fractured hip.  His surgery went well, and he should be moving into the rehab unit at the hospital in the next day or so.  In addition to getting back to walking, our big concern is that he’ll be able to comfortably sit in a car when it’s time to return home.  My parents drove here, so our tentative plan is that I’ll drive them  back when he’s done with rehab and I’ll take the train to get back to my house, but sitting in a car for hours at a time will likely be very uncomfortable, but we’re hoping it’ll be manageable for him.

I don’t know about you, but after this long week, I’m ready to relax with some farmhouse inspiration!

For Farmhouse Friday this week, I choose the theme  Doors & Windows, because there bazillions (or close to it) ways to use and repurpose them, and because they are often pulled out of homes when they are being remodeled, you can often pick them up very inexpensively, or even free.

I’ve used old doors and windows for quite a few projects, but my favorite is an antique window that came out of a courthouse, that we repurposed into a room divider between our Farmhouse Kitchen and living room.  It makes both rooms seem larger, and allows more light to come into our dark living room.

On another wall in my living room, I converted an antique window into a display shelf.

I have an old barn door hanging in my bedroom, with hooks added to it.  It gives us a place to hang coats, my purse, etc.

In our Guest Room, an antique window acts as a frame for oversize wall art.

I turned an antique window into one of my  favorite Farmhouse Painted Signs.

I used another antique window to frame a flag for some patriotic “barn art”.

    • Woot…what a great post, and so glad you dad is doing well. Sometimes it is a good thing to be around when these things happen.

Anyway great door ideas and windows too, makes me want to dig into my stash and ‘Get’er done!’.

  6. Love those doors and windows. You do a great job showcasing everything. Di

  7. Angie, I’m sorry to hear about your Dad. Fractured hips seem to be so prevalent with our senior population. My Mom has fallen multiple times over the last few months and so far (touch some vintage wood) she has walked away with only bruises. I hope your father heals well and isn’t/wasn’t too uncomfortable during the trip home.

  8. I love, love, love these ideas! I found a pile of old windows on the side of the road not long ago and have been using them in a variety of ways in my home (and others!). You have given me some great new ideas 🙂

  9. I ADORE this post – it’s easily my favourite collection of posts that you’ve collated, Angie.
    Awesome!

Looking through this article reminds me of my previous roommate!
He always kept talking about this. I most certainly will forward this post to him.
Pretty sure he’s going to have a very good read. Thanks for sharing!

  12. Do you ever worry about lead? I have a great door that tested positive and I don’t know what to do with it. It was expensive and it’s just propped up on the porch
