Old Feed Sack Style Tote Bag, Sign or Pillow

I can’t believe it’s already July, and I still haven’t gone to a flea market even once yet.  I really need to remedy that soon.  I know they say you won’t miss what you don’t see, but just thinking about all the good pickins’ I might be missing makes me crazy!

One of the things I keep a lookout for is old feed sacks and grain sacks, but I’ve only found a few of them in the last few years.

To scratch my itch for old sacks, the newest Vintage Sign Stencil design recreates the look of an old sack, with several different design options.

The first option is the Poultry Feed Sack Stencil.

The design area measures about 16″ wide x 7-5/8″ tall.

Stencils work wonderful on burlap, like this tote bag, because the burlap has lots of texture that “grabs” the paint.

It looks like an old burlap feed bag was used to make the tote.

This tote bag is available in my shop HERE.

Experiment with using paint colors other than black and white as well.  I used bright red, royal blue and black on this rustic sign.

The second design option is the Feed Store Stencil, that has taller, larger letters, without the additional text that the feed bag stencil has.

It’s perfect for a sign, coat rack, or wall hooks.  I added a bulldog clip to this sign, so it can be used to hold a notepad or a photo.

This sign is available in my shop HERE.

The design area on this stencil is about 14-1/2″ wide x 4-1/2″ tall.

Did you notice the cute little chicken silhouette on the sign?

This is my newest set of Add-On stencils.

This add-on set includes 2 stencils – a tall chicken that measures about 8″ tall x 5-1/2″ wide, and the small one you see on this sign that is about 4-1/4″ tall x 3-1/8″ wide.

I used the larger stencil on this canvas pillow cover, paired with the feed sack stencil above.

This pillow cover is available in my shop HERE.

The larger stencil would also make the cutest shaped chalkboard, but I didn’t have time to get one finished today.

  1. I love all your projects with your new stencils, Angie!

  2. i love your designs and would love to see some ideas like these for a mountain cabin. Something with bears or fish.
    Thanks!

  3. Love your new stencils and ideas! Do your stencils come with good ‘how to’ hints and tips??? 🙂

  4. Hello Angie!

Cute stencils. Still trying to find that perfect one to put in the kitchen. I am more of a baker than a dinner cooker and heavy into fruits and veggies. My husband does all the heavy duty meal cooking for my two growing boys. I will keep watching for the perfect one! Will probably be ordering soon. The chicken/rooster is tempting, but kindof holding out for something more dessert-ish! Have a great day!

  5. I’m a chicken gal, so love these! I second Luuan’s idea for a woodsy theme.

  6. Love all of the stencils and the projects you’ve created with them…in particular, I’m digging the idea that you can create your own grain sack with them! I’ve been crazy over grain sacks for a while now, but since they’ve become so popular, they are impossible to find at good prices…your newest stencils solve that problem perfectly!

  7. You sew too? The sack is pretty awesome, it would be great to take to that flea market to hold your buys… when you get time to go that is.

  8. Loving the pillow.

  9. Angie,

That bag is so darn cute with your stenciled design on it. I haven’t used mine yet. I think I know what I’m going to use one of them on…. It’s an easy (basement shop) project. I’ve been so busy working outside during a cool spell.

    great job lady!

Do you make custom stencils? would like one that uses my last name.

    Shaffer coffee and tea Co.

Think this would be cute on crates, feed sack towels etc in kitchen and bath.

    Price and availability?
