Shop Talk
Isn’t it funny how some weeks you can go to yard sales, auctions and thrift stores and not find a thing, and other weeks you can load up your vehicle with treasures. Two weeks ago, I went to the auction and they didn’t really have much of anything that interested me, and I came home with just 2 things,but last week, it was a goldmine of things I liked, a won quite a few of them.So, if you’ve ever gone to an auction {Read More}
If It Weren’t for Bad Luck…
I refuse to be a victim of bad (dumb) luck. I don’t really believe in bad luck or people being jinxed,but if I did, I’d say I’m a candidate for both when it comes to mirrors and glass. In the last several months, I’ve managed to break 2 glass photo frame inserts,1 glass clock insert and 1 mirror – mainly by placing them in dumb placeswhere they were likely to get broken. I bought THE most beautiful antique dresser mirror from {Read More}
Burning the Midnight Oil
Sorry for the blurry photo, but my little point and shoot doesn’t handle nighttime images with bright lights. This year, the field across from our house was planted in corn, and this farmer has some long hours ahead of him to finish the job. I just want to tip my hat to the farmers across America who are working late into the night, to bring in the harvest that feeds our nation. Antique Graphics Wednesday – Safety Pins
These 2 wonderful images of safety pins came from a 1911 magazine called, “The Modern Priscilla”. This was an advertisement for safety pins made by the Oakville Company in Waterbury, Conn. I think the open safety pin would look cute transferred onto a memo board and both of themwould be darling as enlarged art for a baby’s room.I have removed the backgrounds from both images so they can be layered over other images, using programs like Photoshop or Gimp. Both images were sent to me by Audrey {Read More}
Antique Graphics Wednesday – Child Musicians Frame
Isn’t this frame of children playing musical instruments adorable? It is from an early 1900’s Etude magazine. The magazine was for singers and musicians, but it included an article for children as well and this image was the header for that feature. I think it would be wonderful turned into a card for a music teacher. A Theme for Thursday – {Baskets}
I love baskets of all types – wicker baskets, wooden baskets, metal baskets, but I love turning things into baskets that didn’t start out that way. I brought home several new “baskets” from the flea market recently, so they have become my latest “theme”. For example, this “basket” was originally used by fishermen, the wire and patina make it perfect to bring in from the lake to the house. Do you know what this is? It was a horse muzzle, {Read More}
Milk & Cream Sign with CeCe Caldwell Paint
Last month when I celebrated my one year blog anniversary, I hosted a giveaway for my blogger friend, Shelly @ Shizzle Design, who is a retailer for CeCe Caldwell paint. Everybody and their mother wanted to try that paint and entered the giveaway. The problem with hosting giveaways, is you can’t enter yourself, so I was a little envious of the winner. Shelly must have been reading my thoughts because she recently asked me if I’d like to try some to {Read More}
