All antique sheet music is beautiful – especially when the pages have developed that pretty caramel color around the edges. I have a big stock of it that I sell, but what makes a page a keeper for me is when I love the title. I’m not a musician, but I’d love to hear how this “Heart and Hand” song sounds. I wanted to do something special with it, so I pulled out my stock of old buttons in shades {Read More}

{Book Signing}
Some people like to get their books signed,but I’d rather have a book sign. Remember my experiment a few days ago, where I was trying to recreate the look of an antique porch post column? Here’s the project I wanted it for. There was no visible divider along the wall between our kitchen and our living room and because I wallpapered the living room in antique Bible pages and the kitchen got tongue and groove wood added to the walls, {Read More}
I’ve “Bin” Talking Trash
One of the least decorative, but necessary items in a kitchen has got to be the trash can. I’ve always hated to see the trash can at all in the kitchen, but never had a place to hide it. My family seems to fill it up pretty quickly, so putting a smaller one under the sink where it could be hidden behind a cabinet door wasn’t an option. Since we had to completely gut our kitchen down to the studs {Read More}
Get the Look – Antique Farmhouse Refectory Candelabra
Some of the “Get the Look” projects I choosejust to see how closely I can duplicate them, but some I choosebecause I think they’d look good in my home.This week’s project I wanted for my home.The inspiration for it came from thisAntique Farmhouse Refectory Candelabra, which sold for $82 (it has sold out). I decided to create a variation of it using only items I already had on hand. I have lots of old wood and antique glass insulators,so this {Read More}
Antique Graphics Wednesday – Underwood Typewriter
This image of an Underwood typewriter came from a 1912 Etude magazine advertisement. I have a very similar Underwood typewriter and these things are beasts.Mine is so heavy and actually made the leg of a drum table collapsethat I had it setting on! Mine is a No. 18 Underwood, so thetop of it is longer than the No. 5. You can see many more images I’ve posted in previous weeks by clicking on the tab “Antique Graphics to Print”, located {Read More}
Writing My Name On It
It’s been quite a while since I’ve shared a “Writing My Name on It” blog post. Like Andy writing his name on the bottom of Woody’s boot in Toy Story, here are the things I’m claiming as keepers that you won’t find in the Knick of Time shop. My favorite recent find is this antique telephone. I’ve been wanting one for awhile, but have never felt comfortable spending $20 – $30 on one, but I scored this one for $10 last week. {Read More}
Lavender
Don’t you wish that computer monitors had scratch and sniff capabilities? Terry @ Forever Decorating is my “neighbor” (we live about 15 minutes from each other) and she graciously gave me the last cutting from her beautiful lavender bush. My kitchen smells wonderful with it sitting by my sink. Thanks Terry! Pop over to see the latest projects she has going on at her house. When she says “forever decorating”…she’s not kidding. I was just at her house last month and she’s {Read More}
Antique Graphics Wednesday – 1912 Feminine Frame
Anyone want to take a guess what kind of advertisement this pretty image came from? It was a 1912 advertisement for medicine to treat corns! Apparently corns were a real problem in the early 1900’s because I have a stack of these magazines and all of them have several advertisements from various companies for corn plasters. I think the frame would make a pretty greeting card or post card. Just add your own note in the space where I removed {Read More}
Antique Graphics Wednesday – 1912 Spaghetti Advertisement
Here’s a 100 year old advertisement for Heinz Spaghetti. This would be a fun ad for artwork in the kitchen. Check out the rest of the images I’ve posted in previous weeks by clicking on the tab “Antique Graphics to Print”, located under my header. Antique Graphics Wednesday – 1912 Colgate Toothpaste Advertisements
These two images both were part of a full-page ad on the back cover of a 1912 Etude Magazine. The ads are for Colgate Dental Cream. Isn’t this illustration of a young woman with a gleaming smile lovely? I think this part would be a cute addition to something for a restroom, or medicine cabinet. I’ve never had a problem with my toothpaste “rolling” off the brush, but apparently they did in the early 1900’s so this dental cream came out {Read More}
