Sidewalk Chalkboard from Wooden Folding Chairs

How to turn a wooden folding chair into a standing chalkboard. Today, I want to show you one of my favorite kinds of projects.  I seek out broken things at yard sales, thrift stores, and auctions, because I get a real kick out of taking something broken and turning it into something usable again. You may recall that last fall I bought 35+ antique wooden folding chairs at an auction.  I sold all of them that were still in good {Read More}

Pretty Painted Clipboard Photo and Ephemera Display

I’m a bit of a clipboard addict and love using old clipboards as displays for photos and other bits and pieces of ephemera. I really love it when I find one that has developed pretty darkened patina, as this one has.  I don’t mess with those – I use them as they are.  Occasionally though, you find a nice old clipboard at a thrift store or yard sale, but it’s been doodled on by a student.  In cases like that, {Read More}

Repurposed Bread & Cake Pans

I’m always on the lookout for old metal baking tins and have found quite a few of them recently, so I created a few projects with them.  I added 2 loaf pans and a coat hook to this antique lawn mower handle. I love these old handles.  I’ve found several of them, and they usually have some kind of brand typography on them and the wood has been really pretty on all of them. The loaf pans had the perfect {Read More}

Whatever You Are {Be a Good One}

We had a little miscommunication at my house last night, resulting in some broken glass.  You may recall, during the winter I brought home about 50 antique windows of all shapes and sizes.  I turn some of them into signs (seen HERE, HERE, & HERE), but the majority I sell in my shop, and since it’s difficult to ship windows with glass in them, I generally remove the glass and ship the window frames.  My youngest son is the designated glass {Read More}

It’s the Little Things

I love taking photos of small things, like old wooden thimbles.  They often get “lost” when among all the other larger, showier things in my home, but a photo lets all the focus zoom in on little things, where they can be appreciated more.   I wrapped a bunch of old, empty spools with baker’s twine.  Don’t they look beautiful?  I love the colorful assortment of spools that still have thread on them.  I know I’ve said it before, but {Read More}

Save Money on Furniture Wax

Hey everyone – I hope you had a safe and wonderful July 4th! There are two things I absolutely love about specialty brand waxes like the ones carried CeCe Caldwell’s, Annie Sloan & Miss Mustard Seed – how they are as smooth as butter to apply and the richness of color they give to paint. There are also two things I don’t love about those specialty brands – there are no local suppliers for me, so I have to order {Read More}

Super Ugly Hanging Light Gets Naked

Never in a million years would I normally have purchased this hanging light, or even given it a second look, but I was on the lookout for light bulb sockets I could repurpose for other projects and for $2.50 at a thrift store, it was worth the parts. If you own a hanging like this, I’m sorry. As your friend, I feel compelled to tell you the truth…it’s UGLY. Put “new hanging light” on your Christmas list – you owe {Read More}

Antique Flag Image Printable for July 4th Decor

I do very little holiday decorating in my home, even at Christmas.  The tree and a few other keepsake pieces are all I get out.   I put just a few things out at Thanksgiving, but really don’t do anything for the rest of the holidays.  It isn’t that I don’t want to, I just don’t have the time/energy/motivation, to move my regular decor away (and clean) to decorate for so many holidays. But, when I came across this flag image {Read More}
