I’ve been thinking I need to do a weekly KISS project (keep it simple stupid). It’s a good reminder for me that not every project needs to have 20 steps to complete, and challenges me to keep projects as simple as possible.
Last week when I brought home a bunch of bargains from a thrift store grand re-opening, one of my purchases was this rustic bench.
It’s super sturdy, has great wood, and I knew it wouldn’t take much effort to give it a more farmhouse look.
In fact, I did it in just 3 steps!
Step 1 – I sanded the top down to the bare wood to remove the shiny varnish on it.
Step 2 – I used black paint with the Poultry Feeds stencil and Mini Chicken stencil to give it an instant farmhouse look.
Step 3 – I didn’t want to stain the wood and make it look too dark again, so I just gave it a coat of low gloss Tung Oil. (affiliate link), which freshens the wood and really brings out the details in it, without a glossy finish.
That’s it! Talk about keeping it simple, it took all of 20 minutes to finish and I love it now!
I haven’t decided where I’ll use it yet, but right now it makes a great little table to enjoy under a shade tree in my front yard. There won’t be too many more nice summer days left, so I want to kick off my shoes and enjoy every last one of them while I can!
My gravel road is calling. I think I’ll take the dogs on a walk.
So, would you all like to see KISS become a regular weekly feature? I’d love to hear your feedback!
Yes…I’m new to the painting or fixing up odd items and appreciate easy projects. Good also for those who don’t have a lot of time. Love all your projects!
Awwww, this is just darling…I really love how you are able to take a simple project and make it shine like this…this is a stool I think anyone would be more than happy to display in their home…I know I would! I have three little wooden stools that I bought at auction…one very similar to the one you have made over here and now, after seeing how you took this little stool and turned it into a superstar, I want to make over all three of mine!
I hope you and yours are enjoying the last vestiges of Summer 2015! We have just received relief from an awful heatwave here and now I am ready for Autumn to bring its cool crisp air right on in!
Oh, for goodness sake…sorry, I meant to say that, yes, I would love if you would make KISS a weekly feature because I’m not very gifted in the ways of repurposing, so the simpler, the better! 🙂
Looks great, Angie…love the photos, too! And I love simple projects…
Simple projects are right up my alley!!! 🙂 Love your little stool!
Thanks Connie!
I love the blog and all the posts you do but yes a small KISS is sometimes just what we need
I’m all for a weekly KISS project post! Can’t wait to see what else you come up with!
I can’t wait to see what I come up with too, Jenna, because I have no idea yet! 🙂
Yes, please!!! I would love some simple projects! I love your stool!
Kelly, I’ll start thinking up more KISS projects!
I think I need a few more of those KISS projects 🙂 This little bench is so stylish and easy! Isn’t it great when you find something that only needs a little work in order to be useable again?!?!
Thanks so much, Jamie! I need to do lots more KISS projects, because simple is all I have time for these days, if I hope to ever clean my house 🙂
Love easy and this stool thanks Angie.
Thanks Marlene! 🙂
Your Bench looks a lot like an end table I had once. I love it anyway. I love all the cute stuff you do. I think KISS ptojects are a great idea. Sometimes I only need 3 or 4 steps, and I can take it from there. Keep it up .I really look forward to tour posts.
Elaine, I couldn’t decide if it was a bench or and end table, so I went with a bench!:) I think it works for both though.
Yes, I love simple projects. I really enjoy all your makeovers, but mine have to be simple since I’ m not that great at measurements.
Love it Angie!
Yes! Please do weekly “kisses”. I love it!
Yes, i must agree with everyone else, Angie – please add KISS weekly projects – I’m more apt to make them than lengthy ones. LOVE the bench!!
I vote yes!
Cute ideas
