Big Screen Chalkboard

(Good grief, I didn’t even realize I spelled “projector” wrong until I’d taken all my photos and finished this post, so just pretend you don’t notice, okay?):) I’ve had this projector screen for at least a year and it’s actually the 2nd one I’ve purchased. There isn’t a high demand for projector screens, so if you come across them in thrift stores, you can usually get them pretty inexpensively. We love watching movies outdoors during the summer, so I bought it with {Read More}

Enamelware & Grain Sack Bucket

After what seems like forever, but has really only been a few months, our kitchen remodel is nearing completion.   We still have the baseboards and molding to put on, some work to do on the ceiling where we removed cabinets, finish the lighting above the sink and table.  Actually, I still need a table also, so I’m figuring out what I want and finding the stuff and my husband will make it. No sooner does my husband finish one {Read More}

Antique Graphics Wednesday – No. 1, 2 & 3 and 1800’s Mantelet and Fashions

I’ve got some really wonderful images for you today. They all come from some mid-1800’s Peterson’s magazines (again!). All of the No. images are actually the numbered parts of a pattern, but I thought the typography was so pretty and could be used on so many projects. Here’s the pattern they came from.  It’s a pattern for a “mantelet”, which is a short cape. Are there any seamstresses out there who feel inspired to attempt this pattern?  If so, I’d {Read More}

Chippy Paint and Distressed Metal

I love chippy paint and distressed surfaces.Old metal that shows lots of wear normallyis very endearing to me. Occasionally, there are exceptions though.There is nothing endearing about chippy paintand distressed metal when it’s on your vehicle. Two of my kids borrowed my SUV to go to a movieand shortly after they left our house, the hoodof the car flew up and smashed the windshield and bentthe heck out of the hood. Fortunately, my son was stillable to drive back home {Read More}

No French Flea

I’ve never been to a French flea market, but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t look like this. This flea market is fairly “primitive” looking, with lots of ramshackle buildings, and trailers, but I absolutely love visiting it each year.  It started raining about 10 minutes before we got there early Saturday morning,  and continued most of the time we were there, so my first purchase was an umbrella, (because of course, I didn’t have one in the SUV). Two of {Read More}

Pressed Between the Pages of Time

Antique books are a treasure in and of themselves, but it’s always an extra treat when you find bits and pieces of mementos tucked inside the pages, preserved through the years. This book came home with me from the auction last week.  It was published in 1886.    Aren’t the fonts on the title page pretty? I was flipping through the pages, when I stumbled upon a little note written to “Ella” in 1890.  It was a very short little {Read More}

Blessed Assurance A Death Sentence – A Life Sentence

If there was just one movie I could recommend you see this year, the one I’d recommend was never a blockbuster hit, and it didn’t rake in millions of dollars.  It was made by a Grammy-award winning group that is well-known, and they performed at their finest.  That movie?  The Miracle of Hope – The Brooklyn Tabernacle Singers A few years ago I received a whole box full of Christian DVD’s in the mail.  I can’t remember why I received {Read More}

Pardon the Mess

There’s more remodeling going on, but this time the project isn’t part of my house.  I’m doing some remodeling on my blog, so you’ll notice that things are going to look a little funky while I tweak it. We are away from home for the weekend while my son is in a basketball tournament.  In between games, I plan to hit all the thrift stores and a few antique stores in town, but there’s entirely too much time in the {Read More}
