Just to mix things up and do something fun, I thought I’d share 5 things I’m crushing on, and 1 thing that stresses me out. You can join in – just leave me a comment with your 5+1 things!
Let’s go…
1. Chambray shirts
I’ve been crushing on chambray shirts for awhile, so I started window shopping online. I found this one, and hope it’s available in my local store. I love how it looks with dark blue denim jeans, and it looks so comfy.

2. Claw foot tubs
I need a new bathtub in the worst way. I’m not exaggerating, because the surface of mine is like sandpaper, and I lose a bit of flesh if I slide around in it (was that TMI?) 🙂
I’m drooling over the claw foot tub in this beautifully remodeled bathroom. It’s the tub my bathroom and I are dreaming of.

3. Vintage Posters
I just discovered a free source for vintage poster printables! I love this free printable vintage “Be Kind to Animals” poster.

3. Watercolor Prints
I haven’t tried to paint with watercolors since probably grade school art class, and I guess my Watercolor Barn, doesn’t count as doing actual watercolor painting…does it?
I’m thinking I should hang this watercolor “Bloom” printable by my lavender plants. For the second year in a row, mine are dying…and I want to cry.
It seems I’m doomed to a lavenderless life. Sigh…

And speaking of flowers…
4. Blooming Window Boxes
Last year I planted lots of pretty impatiens in the window box outside my guest room. This year I was so focused on the front yard, I never got around to planting anything in it.
Now I regret it after seeing this one! Isn’t it gorgeous?!

5. Landscape Photography
My landscape photography generally consists of rural photography around my home. I don’t live anywhere near a beach, and this scene just makes me want to kick off my shoes and step into the photo. You can almost feel the sand beneath your feet, and hear the waves in the distance, can’t you?

Okay, now for the 1 thing that stressed me out this week…
I’m curious how many of you are parents of adult children.
I’m not trying to be nosey or anything, but how in the world do you keep from absolutely freaking out the first time one of your “kids” (because even if they are an adult, they are still your kid) goes on vacation… without you?
My daughter is in her early 20’s, and she decided this would be the summer she goes on an “adventure”.
She drove all the way from Illinois to Colorado with a friend.
I threatened to hide in the trunk.
The only reason I didn’t follow through on my threat is because I’m pretty sure she filled it to capacity to keep me from squeezing my way into it. I’ll rest so much easier once she is safely back home.
Well, that’s a wrap for my week!
Tell me your 5+1’s – what are you crushing on, and what’s 1 thing that stressed you out this week?
You’ll feel better once you share it! 🙂
P.S. Come back early in the morning…you’ll get to see me acting like a drama queen!
Blessings,
Haha! I know what you mean about “kids” taking a vacation without you. My daughter, also in her early twenties, recently traveled to Paris by herself. It was a learning experience for both of us! Everything went well and she has wonderful memories of her first European trip.
You are right about it being a learning experience for both the parent and adult child! My daughter’s having a wonderful time, and I’m glad she went…I’ll just be glad when she’s back safely!
Five things I’m crushing on?
1. I think I’m with you on the chambray shirts and in the winter it is denim shirts, whether they are popular or not. I love the comfort.
2. The window box – yes definitely although I have to include any lush, blooming flower garden or veggie garden that is not full of weeds. Obviously not mine.
Not sure I can think of any more. My mind is just about blank for the day and I need to get to bed so I can start the week somewhat refreshed. I hope. I had a couple of days off, so long weekend, but such a whirlwind.
My not so favorite thing – right now and of late, it has to be the crazy stress of life. Mom has cancer & starts treatments next week, husband is unhappy, unhappy w/his job, I am starting a new job, .. . is that enough? I think walking on a beach sounds heavenly right now.
Have a blessed week! I look forward to reading your posts.
Kathy, I hope the cancer treatments do what they need to do, without many side effects, and God completely heals your mom, and I hope things improve with your husband’s job, and your new job turns into one you love!! Take care and I wish you a good week, and sweet beach dreams!
When my daughter was 22 she went to Costa Rica with a friend (also female). All I could think of was back roads kidnappings and drug lords and yet, they came back alive and fine and had a wonderful time. It’s a mom thing.
Five things I am crushing on: vintage sewing machines with lovely decals, my (same as above) daughter’s new home, Oregon tayberries (a cross between blackberries and marion berries I think), robin’s egg blue, and Konmarie organizing and decluttering your home by what brings you JOY.
I am am now the proud owner of the crushed on chambray shirt thanks to you. These have always been my favorites. Also can sympathize with milestones in children’s lives. BTDT! Here’s a new one for you, after becoming a widow I saved for a year and took myself on a driving vacation to all the places I’d longed to see. I headed west from Florida with ultimate destination Yellowstone Wyoming. My grown children thought I lost my marbles and were threatening to stow away. I was alone and sometimes questioning my sanity but I overcame all obstacles and had a great time proving I could do it. Sometimes it’s hard to let go but the growth we experience is worth it.
Angie, this post came at the perfect time. My daughter and my two nieces, all in their twenties are leaving Wednesday for a trip in North Carolina. She just finished graduate school and has two weeks before starting her first real job! My husband has had the car serviced and had to talk to the mechanic personally. We’ve bought snacks for the car trip. Piles of clean and dirty laundry dot my house while she is finishing up what to pack and it’s really weird to be doing this and we are not going. She really deserves this break and I feel good about her doing this with her cousins but I’ll admit I’ll be glad when she’s home next week. It’s different having adult children that’s for sure, as of last week we have no more teenagers in our house as our youngest son turned 20 . Even my husband thought that was a huge change for us. I hope your daughter has a fun and safe trip.
Great blog! Love the tub! So hard to let go of the kids and for me,the grand kid! Who I adore!in college and doing great!have to give them their own life and askGod to keep them safe!
ok! Five things I am crushing on:
1) Women’s light weight flannel. You can roll up sleeve and button.(Costco has them!)
2) Kimono cardigan…..the ones I love are short sleeve and come in pretty colors!
3) Boyfriend jeans….yes, I’m late to the party!
4) My Min Pin puppy girl Rue.(7 mo)
5) Those light bulbs that look old.
Stress:
1) I’m repainting/redoing my family room from beige to gray. First time ever using gray!
2) Thinking about my kids(15&12) being adults!!!!!
I am currently crushing on getting projects done! Ok, maybe that’s the stress part, heehee. Really, I am loving vintage pillowcases and sheets. As far as adult children travelling, I’ve tried so hard to get mine to! My first husband and I divorced when my two oldest were little. That teaches you pretty early on to trust fully that God loves them more than I do, and to be fairly comfortable with them out of my sight. My oldest son has pretty much no interest in travel, but my daughter had the opportunity to live with a friend in Virginia for a year. Maybe not exotic or anything, but my husband and I have encouraged her over and over again to take advantage of being young and see other places. People are so different even from state to state. Check it out! Travel helps you see who you are, what’s important to you. That your daughter is going without you means you did a good job! She’s confident. Prayers you make it though as well as she does. (teasing, you’ll be fine!) Also, I was born and raised in Oregon, and have never heard of a tayberry! I had to look them up and they are a cross of blackberry (marionberries are actually a variety of blackberry) and red raspberry, sounds yummy, now I want to find some!
I bought 2 of those chambray shirts…..on sale….. and LOVE them!!
I am right with you on the freak out part! I have said so often recently that small children are physically exhausting but grown children are emotionally exhausting. They never stop being our children and its very difficult to bite your tongue every time they make a decision on their own…like going on vacation or say getting a tattoo! :0) yep, been there too! I really enjoyed your blog, this is my first time here and it was fun to get in the discussion. If you have a moment I’d love for you to visit me at http://www.mybashfullife.com/ I’m a new blogger and I would love to get a few new followers. Enjoy your week! xoxo Mickey
Oh gosh, sooooooo many things to crush on, it’s hard to just pick five, but here goes:
1. The antique-looking cutting board that you made. It was just sheer perfection!
2. The Morse Code/Phonetic Alphabet print from Restoration Hardware. Just can’t justify spending that kind of money right now.
3. Soooooooo many of the handbags from Roots…it’s too difficult for me to even just choose one.
4. Vintage light fixtures…from the rusty industrial type to the pretty girly glass sorts…there are soooooo many to love, it’s impossible to choose…but I need something for my bedroom and price will probably be the main deciding factor.
5. Peach poppy-seed dressing. It has me eating soooooooo much salad, I feel like I’m growing rabbit ears!
My main stresses are getting my mother through to September so she can have her aortic valve replaced and trying to keep my GSD up on all fours for as long as possible. He has a disease called Degenerative Myelopathy which is like ALS in humans, so he is slowly going paralyzed. Most of my crushes are being put on hold because I’m trying to save enough money to buy him a doggy wheelchair.
I think it’s perfectly normal to worry over one of your adult children traveling so far away from home…you wouldn’t be a good mother if you didn’t worry and I really don’t think there is anything anyone can say to you to help you to stop worrying. But maybe keeping in mind that this will be a very good experience for your daughter…one that is necessary to her becoming a healthy and happy adult…that thought might possibly help a little? I dearly hope so! Remember, too, that you taught her well all of these years…so you have armed her with all of the knowledge she needs to navigate this world as safely as possible. I am sure she will come back to you safe and sound and then you can breathe a sigh of relief and be filled with pride for how expertly your daughter handled herself. I am certainly wishing her a very safe and happy trip all-around and sending tons of positive energy your way in hopes it will help get you through this very stressful time!
Whoopsies…sorry for such a long post! :0
