“Stop hoarding and start using”, was my motto over the weekend and it was raining anyway, so I got busy. My house isn’t much cleaner, but I did come up with some projects to make a dent in the fabric and paper scraps that are threatening to overrun my house and office. I love fabric scraps and save nearly all of them, but I don’t own a sewing machine. I needed a project that didn’t require one, so I made {Read More}
The Happiest Little Toolbox in Town
I bought this old metal toolbox at the auction months ago and usually sell them, but I didn’t realize this one was missing part of the latch on one side, so I decided to keep it and plant some fall mums inside. It wasn’t until I had the flowers planted and stepped back to look, that I realized it’s smiling! It must have had a lock dangling from the center latch at one time, which wore away the paint, creating {Read More}
Repurposed Book Cover Chalkboards
I recently got a box full of books and in it were 2 books with covers I loved. One has a fall print and the other has a winter print, so they seemed perfect to turn in to little seasonal chalkboards. I used painter’s tape to block off the area I didn’t want painted, and added a few coats of chalkboard paint. I used my blow dryer to speed up the drying between coats of paint. I love projects that take {Read More}
I Can Handle It
I’ve got a bit of a fetish for old wooden tool handles and have fun finding ways to use & display them.Some of the small ones end up in potted plants.A green plant makes a nice contrast to the wood handles. I love this ice pick with advertising from an old, local ice company. This tool has a curved blade on it and was froma fruit and produce company. The most unusual handles in my home are 2 that came {Read More}
What a Pleasure
I still get really giddy (just ask my family – I’m constantly calling them over to my computer to see) whenever one of my posts has been featured on another blog, so I was downright tickled pink when Brenda @ Cozy Little House wrote an absolutely glowing post about my blog and home for her Blogger Spotlight series. If you haven’t visited her blog before, you are in for a treat. (click on image to visit) I’m always doing a {Read More}
Antique Graphic Pillows
Every week I share antique images and graphics with you, but I rarely get around to actually doing anything with them myself, so I asked my mom if she would sew some pillow covers that I could add some images to. (Thanks, Mom!) It was fun looking through the images I’ve posted and selecting a few of my favorites. I don’t recommend using regular iron-on transfer paper like you get at craft stores. I experimented with it before putting any {Read More}
Antique Graphics Wednesday – 12 Fruits and Vegetables
These 12 fruit and vegetable images all come from a 1940’s Field Book of Natural History. I think there are a lot of fun projects you could use these on. At the bottom of this post, you’ll see how Bliss @ Bliss Ranch used a garden-related image I previously posted on a wonderful wooden tote. I hope you enjoy them! Bliss @ Bliss Ranch saw her name on an antique advertisement I posted HERE and used it on a wonderful wooden tote. Be {Read More}
Antique Graphics Wednesday – 1908 School Song {Don’t Talk When You’ve Nothing to Say}
I’ve been looking through a 1908 school songbook and there are so many wonderful songs in this book that I plan to share throughout the year with you. It had a variety of types of songs, but some of my favorites are “wisdom” songs, intended to impart wise words. I thought this was a great one for kids who tend to chatter too much. I was one of those kids and still tend to be a chatterbox, so it’s a little wisdom {Read More}
Knick of Time Tuesday #49
Welcome back to the 49thLet’s look at some of the wonderful links shared last week. Suzan @ Simply Vintageous brought a huge smile to my face and heart with this “Anne (with an e)of Green Gables dresser she created. So charming!!! Audrey @ Timeless Treasures gave an old wooden tool box a feminine face lift. Lovely! I’ve got 2 rooms in my house wallpapered in antique books, so this accent wall done byAngela @ Number Fifty-Three grabbed my attention.Didn’t it turn out {Read More}
Buying Time
Thanks so much for letting me cry on your shoulders yesterday, about my oldest son moving into the dorm at college. During another of my teary-eyed spells before he left, he gave me a hug and said, “Why do I get the feeling I’m the only adult in this room?” He knows how to humor me. It seems fitting in my struggle against how quickly time is passing, that I won a box full of old, non-working travel clocks at {Read More}
