French Script Sewing Bench Makeover & Flying Dust

Yesterday, I shared with you an 1872 French letter written in a lovely script.  Today, I’m going to share what I did with the PNG version of this letter. During the summer, I hit a great yard sale that had lots of my favorite kinds of finds, which included an old sewing machine in a stand and included this little bench seat.  The seat lifts off the chair and it was filled with sewing notions – a bonus!  It has {Read More}

Wishing I Had a Brick and Mortar Shop

There are days I really wish I had my own brick and mortar shop and not just an online shop – not so much because I want to run it and be bound to a shop’s hours, but because I want to decorate it and “set up shop”. I brought home this big, beastly beauty from my pastor’s yard sale last week.  I think it would be perfect sitting on top of my antique shop counter (that is still sitting {Read More}

DIY Antique School Wall Chart

DIY Antique School Wall Chart I have a real fondness for antique school primers and am always on the lookout for them.  I love the simple, sweet illustrations in them, and am very drawn to the alphabet pages and pages that show the diacritical marks that helped young pupils to learn to read. Antique primers aren’t too hard to come by, but antique school charts are a little more difficult and are expensive.  I’d love to own an original, but {Read More}

Vintage Blue Labels Printables

I love old labels and especially love the ones I have to share with you today. There are 8 different labels and each has a unique design.  The original labels are pretty small, so it limits the kinds of projects to use them on, but using these high-resolution images means you can enlarge them to suit your purposes. Let me know if you come up with a fun way to use these – Enjoy! Just right click and save. You’ll {Read More}

Harvest Party…It All Started with Root Beer

It looks like I’m having a Harvest Party, but I’m not… and it’s all because of some root beer bottles. A few weeks ago, my daughter had a few friends over for a movie night.  My husband and I had been out of town for a few days, and when we came home, the table was filled with junk food and there was a counter full of empty glass soda bottles.  She knows I love bottles, so they didn’t throw {Read More}

Chalkboards, Tiered Stands & Signs

We’re having another heatwave here in Illinois, and had just enough moisture to make it really humid.  I’ve been keeping busy, little by little working on my way through random things in my workshop that have long been waiting for their turn to get a makeover – like this wooden tray turned chalkboard tray. These parts from an antique sewing machine stand become little chalkboards. My husband helped me put together a few more tiered stands.  This one is made {Read More}

Milk and Cream and Beady Little Eyes

A few days ago, I was outside photographing another Milk & Cream Co. sign when my daughter came rushing up to me saying, “Hurry, take their photo before he flies away!” It constantly amuses me that this girl has always loved snakes, praying mantises, and even huge hissing bugs (and I have no idea what they were), yet she’s always been terrified of spiders – even daddy long-legs.  Her nickname has always been Miss Muffet for that reason. I see {Read More}

Make an Autumn Sign with Wordle That Changes Each Time You Click!

Create an autumn sign with Wordle! Have you used Wordle to make word art yet? If you haven’t, be warned…it’s addictive. You create a list of words (I went with an “Autumn” theme for mine), then just generate the Wordle. You can select your color scheme, layout and font, so it’s limitless what you can create with it. I wanted to turn my Wordle into an autumn sign though, so I: 1) painted an oak cabinet door with chalkboard paint, {Read More}

More Bed Spring Projects

I’ve got several boxes full of old, rusty springs, so a few weeks ago I put some of them to use on some new projects.  I love combining old wood with old metal, so most of my springs got added to wood in one way or another. A few rusty springs with jelly jars in them were added to a salvaged piece of tongue and groove wood. It makes a fun little candle or flower holder. Don’t these yellow flowers {Read More}

Antique Graphics Wednesday – 1900’s Maps of the World & ALL 50 States!

Today, I have a bunch of images to share with you.  Since school will be starting again soon, I thought this would be a great time to share some of my antique maps with you.  There are a few images from the late 1800’s and the rest are all maps from the early 1900’s. There are some world, continent, country and city maps, then I have all 50 states for you.  Yes…all 50!  There are a LOT of maps here {Read More}
