Puppies, Pico and a Pet Feeding Station | The Things We Do for Love

This is Pico. He’s the one with the furry face. He’s my middle son’s best little buddy.  But Pico has some problems, and as his human “mom,” I want to help him however I can.

50th Birthday Thoughts & DIY Burlap Farmhouse Shopping Bag

Today is my 50th birthday. Wow … that’s just weird to say. It seems like yesterday I was half that age, full of youthful energy and busy with a toddler. It would be easy to make jokes about aching knees, failing eyesight, and sagging “girls,” but I won’t. Of course, all those things are true, but instead I prefer to focus on what I’m grateful for. I’m grateful to have two legs that take me where I want to go. My knees {Read More}

Mistletoe Christmas Crate & Cat on the Naughty List

Have you ever watched adorable little children waiting in line for their turn to sit on Santa’s lap, then one of those sweet little cherubs climbs on and proceeds to pull Santa’s beard and push on his belly, just to see if it’s real? Well, if our new little cat was a child, she’d be THAT child. Don’t let looks deceive you. She looks sweet now, but you don’t know what she’s put me through today. I was trying to {Read More}

Paw Prints on Our Hearts | Saying Goodbye to Shiloh

A true friend leaves paw prints on your heart. We’ve known this day was coming for months, but it finally came time to put my oldest son’s beloved beagle Shiloh to sleep yesterday. Every pet owner has stories to tell about their beloved pets, so I hope you’ll indulge me while I share some of mine. I just need to talk about her today…

Cats Versus Pooch : DIY Perch for Cats

Today’s project has abolutely nothing to do with Christmas, but it has everything to do with peace on earth (or at least peace in my house), because there’s a battle raging at my house between our dogs and cats. Well, it’s actually only a battle between both of our cats and one of our dogs, but it’s driving me crazy. The youngest of our four dogs is the troublemaker in the family, and she keeps raiding the cat’s food bowl.  It does’t matter {Read More}

Silent Night in the Living Room and Farewell Photos

I’m plugging away at my Christmas decor, hoping it’ll all be done by Thanksgiving, so I work on a few things each day. I did some tweaking on the wall behind the couch in our living room, to make it look more festive. I removed the window shadow box shelf that I made last year. {see shadow box shelf tutorial here}. I’ll probably move it to my bedroom later, but I wanted to put Christmas wall art in its place. I purchased the Silent {Read More}

Dog Tired – Repurposed Drawer Pet Bed

Last year when my son went off to college, I don’t know who had a harder time with it, me or his dog, Pico.  Pico seemed “lost” for several weeks after he left, and it broke my heart.  He would sit in the front yard and look down our gravel road, and I know he was looking for my son.  He didn’t know what to do with himself inside the house, because he was used to following my son wherever {Read More}

My Boy – Senior Graduation Photos

I apologize in advance for this post.  If you are sick of seeing photos of my kids, I’m going to subject with more of them today.  My middle son is graduating from our homeschool, and being the thrifty mom that I am, I always take their senior photos.  I am not a portrait photographer at all (or any real photographer at all), but we both were really happy with some of the shots we got, and with so many pretty {Read More}

Bittersweet – Goodbye to our New Home & Hello to the New

Today we sign the papers on our new {but very old} home. While I’m not really looking forward to starting the remodeling process, I can’t wait to get my shop set up in the separate outbuilding, so the house can be just my home again – and not look like a cross between a flea market & a shipping depot. I’m excited we’ll live 20+ minutes closer to the town we travel to daily. My husband will have a 10 minute drive to work, instead of {Read More}
