Antique Graphics Wednesday – Hearth and Home Typography Frame

This “Hearth and Home” image is the cover illustration of a magazine from 1914.   I love the fire in the hearth burning in the center and the snoozing dog. I think the typography would make a pretty sign. The first one is the original aged color tone.    The next two images I’ve altered the color tone.  Click on images to enlarge. Antique Graphics Wednesday – Child Musicians Frame

Isn’t this frame of children playing musical instruments adorable? It is from an early 1900’s Etude magazine. The magazine was for singers and musicians, but it included an article for children as well and this image was the header for that feature. I think it would be wonderful turned into  a card for a music teacher. A Theme for Thursday {stencil it!}

Antique Graphics Wednesday – Sewing Border

I love this wonderful border showing a variety of sewing notions.  This image came from a 1913 magazine called, “The Modern Priscilla” that was sent to me by Audrey @ Timeless Treasures. Thank you, Audrey! This graphic was used as the header of a column in the magazine called, “The Home Dressmaker”, which provided patterns and instructions for a variety of garments.   I think it would be perfect for stationary or business cards. To see all the past images I’ve {Read More}

Rural Churches

One of my favorite things about driving back country roads, is coming across old country churches. My daughter and I went to the flea market  WAYYYY out in the country a few weeks ago, and saw a few wonderful, old rural churches. I couldn’t tell whether this one still holds services or not,but it sure is a beauty. A 127 year old Baptist church sits right behind the Methodist church, offering services only on the first 2 Sundays each month. {Read More}

Milk & Cream Sign with CeCe Caldwell Paint

Last month when I celebrated my one year blog anniversary, I hosted a giveaway for my blogger friend, Shelly @ Shizzle Design, who is a retailer for CeCe Caldwell paint.   Everybody and their mother wanted to try that paint and entered the giveaway. The problem with hosting giveaways, is you can’t enter yourself, so I was a little envious of the winner. Shelly must have been reading my thoughts because she recently asked me if I’d like to try some to {Read More}

I Can Handle It

I’ve got a bit of a fetish for old wooden tool handles and have fun finding ways to use & display them.Some of the small ones end up in potted plants.A green plant makes a nice contrast to the wood handles. I love this ice pick with advertising from an old, local ice company. This tool has a curved blade on it and was froma fruit and produce company. The most unusual handles in my home are 2 that came {Read More}

Antique Graphics Wednesday – 1908 School Song {Don’t Talk When You’ve Nothing to Say}

I’ve been looking through a 1908 school songbook and there are so many wonderful songs in this book that I plan to share throughout the year with you.  It had a variety of types of songs,  but some of my favorites are “wisdom” songs, intended to impart wise words. I thought this was a great one for kids who tend to chatter too much. I was one of those kids and still tend to be a chatterbox, so it’s a little wisdom {Read More}

Buying Time

Thanks so much for letting me cry on your shoulders yesterday, about my oldest son moving into the dorm at college. During another of my teary-eyed spells before he left, he gave me a hug and said, “Why do I get the feeling I’m the only adult in this room?” He knows how to humor me. It seems fitting in my struggle against how quickly time is passing, that I won a box full of old, non-working travel clocks at {Read More}
