I LOVE flea markets, so any day at the Flea is a good day,but when my husband volunteersto go to a flea market with me is a really Good Day. He’s the perfect flea market buddy…he rarely wants to buy anything himself(so I have more to spend!),he shakes his head at the appropriatetimes when I ohh and ahhhh over something{actually, he’s probably shaking his headin bewilderment because he can’t understandwhy I buy the things I buy – but I’ll pretend},he takes my {Read More}

Chippy Paint and Distressed Metal
I love chippy paint and distressed surfaces.Old metal that shows lots of wear normallyis very endearing to me. Occasionally, there are exceptions though.There is nothing endearing about chippy paintand distressed metal when it’s on your vehicle. Two of my kids borrowed my SUV to go to a movieand shortly after they left our house, the hoodof the car flew up and smashed the windshield and bentthe heck out of the hood. Fortunately, my son was stillable to drive back home {Read More}
Cottage Garden Tote
I’ve had my radar set for wooden totes lately, and have been fortunate to find several at flea markets and auctions. This tote started out looking like this and it’s the 2nd one I’ve found like it – snowmen and all. I loved how the first one turned out and almost did the same makeover on the second one, but I had some beautiful pages from a book called, “The Country Diary of Edwardian Lady”, which is a facsimile reproduction {Read More}
{Get the Look} – Bud Vase Garland
Sweet and Petite are two perfect words to describe today’s “Get the Look” project. Quick and cheap would be two other fitting words, also. The inspiration for it came from 2 sets of bud vase garlands available from Terrain for $22 & 24 each. While their matching, clear glass bottles are very pretty, I prefer my mismatched, antique, chipped a little, bottles. I don’t pay more than $2, at the most, for antique bottles, so I knew I could make it for {Read More}
Antique Graphics Wednesday – Silhouettes
Today’s images are silhouettes from a 1935 children’s song book called, “Fifty Favorite Songs for Girls & Boys”. I’ve given most of them a black/gray tone, but left the complete song pages in their original color tone so you can see their pretty aged look. I think these would be perfect to create some handmade greeting cards with. Here’s a very famous lullaby. These pages are very fragile and unfortunately, this one has a tear at the bottom. I love {Read More}
This is Gonna Hurt a Little
If the kitchen is the heart of the home, my kitchen is desperately in need of CPR. Our kitchen is needs work – no two ways about it. Sadly, things often have to get worse before they get better. Here’s how it looked before we moved in. My husband is tearing out this section of the room. It’s kind of like getting a bad tooth pulled – you know you’ll feel better when it’s done, but it stinks while you’re {Read More}

No French Flea
I’ve never been to a French flea market, but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t look like this. This flea market is fairly “primitive” looking, with lots of ramshackle buildings, and trailers, but I absolutely love visiting it each year. It started raining about 10 minutes before we got there early Saturday morning, and continued most of the time we were there, so my first purchase was an umbrella, (because of course, I didn’t have one in the SUV). Two of {Read More}
Sonday – My Mother’s Hands
Lots of thoughts and images stand outin our minds when we think of our mothers. Perhaps it is her smile, her laugh, her styleor the meals she put on the table. When I think of my mom, I think of her hands. Not just her hands, but how her handshave had such an influence on my life. My mother has been a seamstress sincebefore I was born. My childhood memoriesare filled with images of her sitting at hersewing machine, making curtains, or {Read More}
