I love it when I stumble across something unique at a yard sale or flea market, that I know I’m unlikely to come across again. A few weeks ago, I got an antique car windshield at a yard sale and that was definitely the first time I’d ever found one of those. The man selling it had several of them, but the rest had broken pieces off the glass, so I only purchased this one. I debated a few different {Read More}
221B Baker Street Sign
Since my older two sons have left for college, my youngest son got to take over one of their bedrooms. My middle son wasn’t interested in painting or doing anything to the room when he was in it, but my youngest son did want to do some decorating. He’s a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes books, so we batted around some ideas to decorate around that theme, but buying Victorian-era furniture, wallpaper and other “props” isn’t in my price {Read More}
Chalkboards, Tiered Stands & Signs
We’re having another heatwave here in Illinois, and had just enough moisture to make it really humid. I’ve been keeping busy, little by little working on my way through random things in my workshop that have long been waiting for their turn to get a makeover – like this wooden tray turned chalkboard tray. These parts from an antique sewing machine stand become little chalkboards. My husband helped me put together a few more tiered stands. This one is made {Read More}
Milk and Cream and Beady Little Eyes
A few days ago, I was outside photographing another Milk & Cream Co. sign when my daughter came rushing up to me saying, “Hurry, take their photo before he flies away!” It constantly amuses me that this girl has always loved snakes, praying mantises, and even huge hissing bugs (and I have no idea what they were), yet she’s always been terrified of spiders – even daddy long-legs. Her nickname has always been Miss Muffet for that reason. I see {Read More}
Make an Autumn Sign with Wordle That Changes Each Time You Click!
Create an autumn sign with Wordle! Have you used Wordle to make word art yet? If you haven’t, be warned…it’s addictive. You create a list of words (I went with an “Autumn” theme for mine), then just generate the Wordle. You can select your color scheme, layout and font, so it’s limitless what you can create with it. I wanted to turn my Wordle into an autumn sign though, so I: 1) painted an oak cabinet door with chalkboard paint, {Read More}
Train Sign…that got off track.
Not every project goes exactly how we plan, does it? I worked on one a few weeks ago that got a little “off track” {pun intended}. I saw this awesome antique sign on Etsy. Not only was the price tag $585 and way out of my price range, but I knew it would be an easy design to recreate myself…or so I thought.I didn’t take a lot of photos during the process, but I created the grid first, then the {Read More}
Air Mail Sign {How-To}
Remember the 1930’s mailing labels I shared with you a few weeks ago? Well, I really wanted to come up with something fun to do with them. I had boards that were long and narrow like this image, so I picked that one to make a sign from. Here’s the image after I edited it using Photoshop. To use it with your Silhouette, just save this image to your computer, then open it in your Silhouette and click on the {Read More}
Enjoy the Ride… {Free Bicycle Images to Use with the Silhouette}
I had planned on painting my rusty, sweet old bicycle this summer, but I still haven’t gotten around to doing it yet, but I did paint another old white bicycle, but this one is on a wooden sign. I’ll show you how easy it is to create one of your own, with bunches of bicycle images to choose from. First, go to Dafont.com and download the Sepeda font HERE. Every letter of the alphabet is represented by a different kind {Read More}
DIY Chalkboard Lettering – {Guest House Sign}
If you are like me and aren’t a chalkboard artist, then the method I use may help you to do prettier lettering on your chalkboards. I know a lot of people just print their lettering on paper, chalk the back of the paper and trace it on the sign, then fill in the lines with chalk, but I like this method a little better because the background and letters don’t get as smudged as they can with the other method. {Read More}
Antique Silverware – {Fine Dining Sign}
Ever since I made my silver spoon wall art for my kitchen, I’ve been rebuilding my stockpile of tarnished old flatware so I could create more projects with them. I seem to find more spoons than knives and forks, so I have a lot of those. I love making these into wall art, because it’s such a simple project. I grabbed one of my old tongue and groove boards and sanded down some of the bumpy paint that was barely {Read More}
