Making a Union Jack Sign…{the hard way}

There’s the easy way to make a Union Jack sign…and then there’s my way.  If any of you plan to make one of your own, I just thought I would show you the way not to do it, and save you the trouble.

Using a Paper Punch as a Stencil to Paint a Fancy Border

I’ve been working on some new Book Page Canvas Wall Art (other designs here), and wanted to dress up the edges.  I use adhesive vinyl to create a stencil to paint the wording, but I didn’t want to use expensive vinyl to create a border, since once I remove it, it isn’t reusable.   I don’t normally buy many paper punches, because I don’t use them often, but when I spotted this Doily Lace Edge punch by Martha Stewart in Hobby {Read More}

A New Sign, a Bread Pan, a Lunch Box and more

I always have visions of summer being such a relaxing, laid-back time, but it never seems to work out that way.  It’s been a very fun summer, but busy enough that I’ve done very little work.  Over the last month, I’ve brought home quite a few neat things, but most of them have been sitting in a corner of my living room, I’m just now getting around to taking photos of them. I found this bread pan at an antique {Read More}

Salvaged Metal and Wood Sign, Answered Questions about the Guest Room & the Nightmare on the Other Side

A few weeks ago, I shared some industrial style inspiration I found while vacation. One of the things I fell in love with, was this sign made of corrugated metal and a wood frame.  I added it to my “must make” list of things to do when I got back home. I knew I had some corrugated metal (leftover from my guest room remodel), and my nephew gave me an antique wood frame, that he found in the abandoned house behind {Read More}

Psalm 91 – A Sign Created from Tornado Salvage

You may recall that last November, my cousin (and many others) lost her home to a tornado that hit my childhood hometown (view that post here).  When they sorted through the rubble, they set aside any wood they felt I may be able to use to create something with.   One piece I brought home was a portion of a side rail from her bed.  The wood was battered, but battered wood is lovely to make signs with, so I {Read More}

Can You Guess The Mystery Parts?

Before I tell you much about the sign I made over the weekend, I’m wondering how many of you can guess what the parts were originally part of.  If I didn’t already know, there’s no way I would have guessed, but I’m curious if any of you can. Here’s what the pieces look like up close.  Any guesses? Okay, don’t peek yet, but I’ll give you the answer at the end of the post.  Anyway, recently, I bought two old {Read More}

Repurposed Antique Headboard into Coat Rack

If only I had more space… You have no idea how often those words cross my mind, and they definitely were on my mind today, as I was photographing this headboard-turned-coat rack to list in my shop. The details and shape are just gorgeous.   I used Blue Minerals Chalk Paint Powder to make chalky paint, and distressed it just enough to highlight the details.  I added 3 ornate coat hooks, although there is room to add 2 more, if {Read More}

Christmas Signs on Repurposed Things

I guess I’m a poor planner, because it never occurs to me to work on Christmas projects a few months in advance, so I have them ready to list in my shop BEFORE the holiday season starts, but every year, around late November, I realize I haven’t created anything for the Christmas season to sell.  This year was no exception, so I’ve only created a few signs, and I’m not sure I’ll make any more, since most people have already {Read More}

God Bless Us, Every One! – Repurposed Sewing Machine Table Salvage Sign

In past years, I didn’t get in the Christmas decorating groove until halfway through December, but this year it kicked in earlier, thank goodness!     As always, the first step for me in creating something is to dig through my stash of junk out in my workshop, to see what I have to work with.  I don’t usually know what I’ll make, but I grab anything that seems inspiring at the moment, so I grabbed a wooden rectangle-shaped piece {Read More}

Go Light Your World Sign

I want to thank you all for the prayers, heartfelt well-wishes and monetary gifts sent for my cousin who lost her home in the tornado.  It was heartbreaking hearing her account of those moments she endured while it happened, and so sad watching her go through the rubble left of her home, looking for anything that survived. God was with them during the storm, and I have no doubt he’ll be with them as they go forward in rebuilding.  Her {Read More}
