How to Install a Wood Plank Wall and my “Dear John”

After taking all of November and most of December off from house remodeling projects, I’ve been itching to start making more progress on our to-do list, and the next room on the list has been our bedroom.  It’s still in the beginning stages, but we’re making some progress.  The walls in the room were originally just thin paneling.  The corner seams were never finished, and there was no trim around the ceiling, so I couldn’t wait to make it disappear.  Rather than tear {Read More}

Back in Black – My Front Door and a Gossip Bench

Recently, I showed you the makeover I gave the outside of my front door (seen here), and I finally got around to doing the inside of it this week, but the red color I choose for the outside was not going to work for the inside of the door.  Do people usually have 2-color doors?  I don’t know if that’s the norm, but I have one now!  After painting the front side, I learned a few things.  First of all, {Read More}

Farmhouse Kitchen Wall Update

I thought I’d change gears this week, from Christmas projects, to the changes we made to the wall behind our stove in our farmhouse kitchen.  I really hadn’t intended to overhaul the look of this wall, but one project leads to another…and often another, and that was definitely the case with my kitchen wall, as you’ll see. It all started when we got a new oven range hood from Westside Wholesale. Obviously, it’s a modern appliance, so once we got it installed, the {Read More}

Oven Range Hood from a Reclaimed Antique Door

It’s been a few years since we remodeled our farmhouse kitchen (see remodel reveal here), and I still love it as much as the day it was finished, but there are a few things I’d do differently now, after having lived with it for a few years.  For instance, we made open shelves from wood salvaged from an old table. I love those shelves in the kitchen, but we put one above our stove, and that was a big mistake. {Read More}

Front Door Makeover!

I have an ugly front door.  Admittedly, the dead mums aren’t helping, but still, it’s ugly.  It’s a sturdy metal door, but that’s about all that can be said for it.  It’s gotten dented, and marked up, and it’s just very bland looking. A few months ago, I asked my husband if I could paint our ugly front door.  He said he didn’t care, so I went online, searching for inspiration to decide what color to paint it, and I spotted {Read More}

Autumn Morning on a Farm Country Road

The last several days, it’s been very foggy in the morning, but burns off late morning.  A few days ago, I was getting in my car, and noticed how beautiful it looked, with the fall colors, and had to grab my camera to capture it.   The view down our gravel road was ghostly beautiful, and  my oldest son said it looked like the Headless Horseman should come galloping down it. My old-fashioned wooden swing looked a little lonesome, yet charming. The {Read More}

British Inspired Teen Bedroom Makeover

Whenever I’m giving a room a makeover, I’m always flying by the seat of my pants, with only a general idea of the look I’m going for.  I figure it out as I go, and as I root through my house and workshop to see what I have to work with, but this time it was a doozy. You see, a few weeks ago, I decided to give our bedroom a makeover.  We haven’t done a single thing to it, since {Read More}

My New Picnic Table

Sometimes, you have to be patient to get what you want.  Last year I found an old picnic table at thrift store.  My husband didn’t want me to get it, and assured me he could build one for me.  I translated that to mean, he’d do it by next week, but I was mistaken.  Having impatiently waited a year, I will admit that it was worth the wait. A few weeks ago, he came home with a big stack of {Read More}

Guest Cottage Room Reveal {in an Old Farmhouse Shed}

It’s finally finished!  We started this project in July of last year, and I was overly optimistic, and thought my new guest cottage room / photo studio would be done by the end of September.  Ha!  Well, at least it was completed before the end of September this year.  It was worth the wait though, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. To give you an idea of the work that went into this room, you have to {Read More}

Farmhouse Bathroom Makeover … {again}

I bet you weren’t expecting to see a bathroom remodel, since I haven’t mentioned doing one, and quite honestly, I wasn’t expecting it either. We only have 2 bathrooms, and both of them have already been remodeled, so here’s the long-winded explanation, with lots of photos.  If you hate long-winded explanations, skip the next several paragraphs and just look at the photos.  I hope you enjoy our farmhouse bathroom makeover! I was sitting in the bathtub one evening last week, {Read More}
