We all love old Ball canning jars, right? Actually, I love all old canning jars, regardless of the brand. Topped with a zinc lid, they are the picture of simple farmhouse charm. I hope you have a “Ball” seeing seeing some of my favorite ways to use and display them! {filled with dainty straw flowers} {beautiful honey comb} {rooting a coleus plant} {a long-time favorite use for many generations…a button jar} {storing dry foods – popcorn, sea salt & rice} {Read More}
Repurposed Headboard Chalkboard
I bought 2 sets of bed headboards and foot boards about 6 months ago, all for $1 at an auction. I wasn’t sure what I’d do with them, but I loved the shape of the headboards, and the posts were pretty cool too, so I knew I’d eventually do something with them. As usual, in the middle of the night I decided one of them had to become a chalkboard. No, it couldn’t wait until morning…it had to be done at 3:30 am. My {Read More}
Time Well Spent
Time is “well spent” for the clock and watch faces I’ve used, to create this sign, but I think it is also serves as a gentle reminder to spend our time wisely. I love, the crackled look of the varnish on this old wood. I used CeCe Caldwell chalk paint, in the colors Vermont Slate and Johnston Daffodil. I lightly sanded the whole sign and did it a little heavier around some of the edges. The sign was purchased by {Read More}
A Theme for Thursday – {banners}
I said last week that I planned to choose a theme that would somewhat dictate what projects I would work on, but the theme for the week just seemed to come unplanned. I showed you this spur-of-the-moment banner I made for my family photo shoot. And I had already made this bunting from some antique pages. Then, I had a request by a customer to create a word banner for a baby shower. While batting around ideas with her, I found {Read More}
I’m Diggin’ It – Garden Spade Decor
If you really dig old tools, this little project might be right up your alley. It didn’t cost any money to create – I had the few supplies needed already on hand. Chances are good you have everything too, or something similar that would work just as well. When I saw this Garden Spade Door Knocker sold by Terrain, I had one of those, “that gives me an idea” moments. I don’t really want a door knocker because we have a doorbell that {Read More}
Farmhouse Kitchen Remodel – A Room with a View
I didn’t plan to show you my farmhouse kitchen remodel until Friday, because I had a lot of photos to go through before posting about it, but my mom is going on a camping trip today and she wasn’t too happy when she found out she wouldn’t get to see my kitchen until she got home late Sunday night. I stayed up until the wee hours this morning finishing this post for you, Mom – I hope you like it {Read More}
Ironstone & Tarnished Silverware Displays
I told you last month about my super chippy, antique door that I took apart and have been creating things with the parts.I put some sealer on this panel from the door, hoping to preserve as much of the chippy paint that is left, then added hangers to the backs of some ironstone bowls and a platter to hang on it. I love the simple, farmhouse look of the old wood and crazed ironstone together. The piece above it is salvage {Read More}
Another Bud Vase Garland
A few weeks ago, I showed you a bud vase garland I created out of vintage apothecary bottles, and I made another one yesterday. I found a few blue bottles last week, and like how they look paired with the clear glass ones. I love making these – they are so simple, but they look so charming filled with some dried flower sprigs.
{Get the Look} – Relique Bicycle Seat on Stand
The inspiration for today’s “Get the Look” project came from Relique.com, who sells a set of 5 Bicycle Seats on Stands for $659…OUCH! Their price tag gives me heart palpitations, but I can spend a ridiculous amount of time on their website. They carry some seriously interesting stuff. While 5 of them do look interesting grouped together, I don’t have 5, but I did already have this 1 rusty, old bicycle seat. Looking through my stash of junque (it doesn’t {Read More}
{Get the Look} – Bud Vase Garland
Sweet and Petite are two perfect words to describe today’s “Get the Look” project. Quick and cheap would be two other fitting words, also. The inspiration for it came from 2 sets of bud vase garlands available from Terrain for $22 & 24 each. While their matching, clear glass bottles are very pretty, I prefer my mismatched, antique, chipped a little, bottles. I don’t pay more than $2, at the most, for antique bottles, so I knew I could make it for {Read More}
